I did combat in the boonies of South Vietnam and I can tell you we got 'down' time' or 'standdowns' as we got choppered back to the rear base camps. Not only did we drink 3.2% beer, seek out village ho's, play poker and occasionally listen to all-orinetal bands, but at quieter times we read books, smoked dope or just read letters after mail call.

The veteran he described is undoubtedly a liberal who O'Reilly called a 'pinhead' in the book, so its not surprising that the soldier or the Marine reading about himself and his distaste for all things military and his unfortunate mistake of joining the military he so despises....would indeed lash out with his frustration of having a combat MOS in the first place.

I didn't read the book myself, but having watched O'Reilly slam weenie liberals on his TV show, I can tell you that the guy burning his books was one true 'PINHEAD'! Perhaps the veteran was upset that the colors on the cover of the book were red..white..and blue, which would automatically make it a liberal nightmare.

 

And perhaps, like others, he felt that sending soldiers overt political propaganda was in poor taste?
Furthermore O'Reilly is an ignorant partisan blockhead. Who could forget his insistence that the Malmedy massacre was carried out by US troops, and not the SS.

A soldier questioning another soldier's patriotism because of a political schism, class act!

 

I'm not made at the homosexual soldier - assuming he exists at all of which there is no evidence that he does.

But if he does just being gay is punishment enough.

Besides, O'Reilly is a world-class blowhard and can be quite a bore at times even if he is slightly to right of center on many issues.
