The thing is, it's not literal. Bread is a symbol of the Word. As our bodies need bread (food in general) to survive, so do our soul need "soul bread", which would be the Logos (Word). Flesh to flesh, spirit to spirit.

 

Honestly, if I was Jesus (and assuming that "hell" is real, for argument's sake), I'd give tours of "hell" - sort of like the technique used by the "Scared Straight" juvenile programs to show youths how bad prison is. Because like a lot of youths might commit crimes because they don't fully understand just how bad prison might be, a lot of non-Christians might not realize just how bad "hell" is. This would be the right thing to do. Jesus doesn't do this, because Jesus (and "hell") are not actually real.

I've heard those Grand Canyon tours are hideously expensive, though. Even that transparent walkway thingy hangin' over the edge of hell is some sort of crazy price, for like ... a 10 minute stroll!
