I believe another poster explained it in post #202 when they stated that black people saying it don't get offended because it's more a term of recognition or endearment. Compared to white people who are actively looking for trouble and trying to provoke someone when saying it.

No logical sense how a random black person could walk up to another random black person and use a racial slur and be seen as "endearing"

It's less likely to be offensive from a black person as it would be from a random white person.

Its a slur.. Its meant as a slur... The definition is insulting and demeaning... Spinning it to defend or justify it is nonsense.

And like other slurs, has been used to have multiple meanings. For instance "cracker" means a Souther white person but also means a food.

Are you saying if a Black Person calls a random white person in say Boston a cracker they care calling them a type of food?

The spin on this is funny.

No, I'm not. I'm saying a lot of slurs have multiple meanings, that is just one example.

Tell ya what, find yourself a black person, ask him if he considers "******" a fighting word and get back to us. (We'll give you a few days to get Internet to your hospital bed.)

And let's put this another way, what if the woman had been black and the white guy was calling her a ****** until she broke down and cried, what if a black child was being harassed by white hoodlums. Would you all still be saying they should buck up, it's only a word?

I can't call a lot of the posters on here any of the choice names I'd like to and that's rightly so, but why do you then think such words should be tolerated without consequence in general public discourse? They weren't on a football field or in a fight, they were on a bus, a public conveyance where a certain amount of decorum is not only expected but necessary.

So when confronted by a stranger with a superiority complex your solution is to inflict physical violence? I'm just having a hard time reconciling this viewpoint. This guy was so close to being the better man and he blew it. Was it worth it?

In the instance of "cracker," but not so much for the N-word. I bet if you walked up to some random black person and said that you'd get a very negative reaction, and quite rightly so.

So you change it due to the scenario and then justify violence.. again....

Um... yeah. When some stranger with a superiority complex starts to have an utterly racist conversation with a random other person at the person's expense.... than I fail to see a problem with a slap in the face. Much better than wussing out. And that "inflict physical violence": get over it. He didn't use his fist to knock all her teeth out in 15 blows. It was just 1 lil open hand slap.

So? Would you expect something good to come from saying something like that in that scenario?

You see what you want to see, and that's what you want to see. The reality of it is that a couple of undisciplined, unthinking, individuals got into a stupid argument on a bus.

I am referring to the law, not the opinions of some hypothetical black guy
