By the same token, a great many lives could be saved if the private use of motor vehicles was subject to stricter regulations, if not outright elimination. We always looked at carrying a pistol as sniper bate.

Charley saw someone wearing a pistol and assumed he was someone important and needed to be taken out.

Also a pistol is just another few extra pounds that has to be humped with and an additional weapon that had to be cleaned.

Not all Marines were issued K-Bars.

Those Marines who weren't issued a service rifle with a bayonet rated the K-Bar.

 

Sadly all of the victims were disarmed by their government.

 

Guns are a necessary pain in the ass. Never carry more than you have to.
OTOH, that K-Bar would always be a good thing to have handy - fashion sense permitting.

 

So I doubt his military service had nothing to do with it and there was no PTSD.

PTSD doesn't make someone turn into a killer but the complete opposite.

During WW l it was called "shell shock."
During WW ll it was called "battle fatigue" and you could get a slap in the face from a general.

Bullying other people usually ends after grade school, it's kids stuff.

When I was growing up we learned how to deal with bullying, it was calledf fistacuffing, not running away looking for a safe space or resorting to a gun.

 

When I got transferred to Sub Unit One 1st Anglico I had just been promoted to corporal and was made a NGF spot team leader. I rated a pistol but never checked it out of the armory and just kept my M-16. But being ANGLICO I rated the K-Bar and I must have used the K-Bar for opening a thousand C-ration cans.

Wikipedia does a pretty good job on telling the history of the most famous combat knife in history. Rarely used as a combat knife but an all round utility knife.

If you were issued a M-14 or M-16, you were issued a bayonet.

In 2003 all Marine Corps M-7 bayonets for the M-16 were replaced with the new OKC-3S bayonet which is nothing more than a K-Bar that can be attached to the M-16 or M-4.

Good article. I don't think there is a better design for utility knife.
