Generally speaking, British "security" is a friggin joke, I won't post pics for security reasons, but some of our military installations and barracks etc haven't even got a main gate (you couldn't make it up) and a bomb truck could drive straight in.

Yup, I've worked in a few of them, mainly training camps, where the armed guards at the gates only have blank rounds in their weapons. As with most cases with our inept "crisis management" it will probably take an incident before things are properly tightened up. However even these targets are not as soft as the opportunities for mowing down innocent pedestrians.
Without some kind of strict martial law, which nobody wants, it is nearly impossible to eliminate terrorist attacks so a refusal to cower in fear while we go about our lives seems the best way forward.
