Well, we just had a case here of a doctor who killed his two children and was declared insane at the time. Now, about a year after he was sent to a mental institution there are talk that he may get out soon, move to another province and start a new life. He didn't even lose is medical licence...
That policy is insane in and of itself. Sorry to hear that. One of the few good things that Jesse Helms did here in America was that he successfully pushed for the "guilty but insane" ruling. Over here, you can be declared insane but still held accountable as guilty, so that you serve the same time as a sane guilty person. In fact, we tend to hold insane criminals longer than sane ones (see the Charles Manson case).
