Dick Cheney has come out swinging at Trump. The fact that the Republican establishment would fight back isn't unanticipated, what is surprising is that it's Cheney. This is likely the beginning of a very focused campaign by the GOP to discredit Trump.

I think Dick Cheney is the PR guy for the GOP Establishment so he has berated Trump because the GOP Establishment fears a GOP loss in 2016 if Trump becomes the GOP Presidential Nominee.

My feeling is that The People are sick and tired of the status-quo, and that Trump represents a departure from that. Establishment republicans are seeing the frightening possibility of an "abode shift" from their comfy sofa by the fire, to the underside of an interstate overpass, as voters send ALL the establishment (republican and democrat) scumbags packing. The democrats would do well to present a candidate with similar anti-establishment qualities to test if there is sufficient mutiny amongst their well-ensconced ranks as well. So far, all they have is Hillary.

The GOP has Rand Paul. If they actually gave a damn about the Country, they'd promote him as their Golden Boy. Instead, they are happy to defend their status quo, and keep the Clown Car in fine tune.

I disagree. It looks more like a gop plot to bring in democrats who refuse to vote for Hillary, the deceiver.....

It's well known Cheney is the most hated person for democrats, and the fact that Cheney hates trump, endears trump to democrats.

Trump is suddenly more palatable to democrats

Everybody should be speaking up against Trump's fascist nonsense. Good on Dick.

Funny how we all see things with partisan coloured glasses. As a left wing whacko, beleive me, I am not saying to myself "wow. if cheney hates trump there must be something to this guy" rather, I am thinking "holly jeezus mother fletcher! If even the most radical messed up conservative I have known in my lifetime thinks this guys is extreme, we are dealing with a real psychopath!"

I thought Cheney was freakn Darth Vader. Does that make trump the emperor?

Seriously though, I don't see a lot of democrats voting for a scumbag like Hillary. Can you list her redeeming qualities?

Huh, it's been a really long time since I've found myself cheering for Cheney. Good job.

I'm not a Democrat, but I'll answer: not really. But I do find it odd that, in every thread about Trump, there's a republican trying to change the subject to another candidate (rather than defend their own) within the first page.

No surprise at all that someone in the very heart of the GOP establishment hates Trump and comes out publicly against him. Cheney is the obvious choice too, he has credentials, he has some standing with conservatives (but not a lot), and his political career is over so he is free to blast away and attack a huge segment of the GOP base.

I think that tactic is often used by both sides of the artificial divide. It's all part of how our two party system works. Or rather, how it fails to work.

But the GOP establishment has long been discredited by the people.

    It wont work.

Bingo. Which is also why I can't criticize any of the major candidates without someone assuming that I must absolutely worship the front-runner for the other side. I've even had people accuse me of being a stealth [insert disliked party here] just because I don't like their favorite candidate.

I almost hope that both Sanders and Trump will run as independents, just to shake things up.

The guy that contributed greatly in starting this mess, berating the guy that wants to make it worse by feeding into the rhetoric that ISIS is counting on. What a movie this is going to make. Trump will want to play himself of course.

OK, Ill tell you a secret.

Trump doesnt give a crap what other rich billionaires want.

He doesnt care. He doesnt need nor want their money.

Trump is going to work for America, not the interests of corporate fat cats.

There need to be tarrifs, and fair trade, not free trade. Rich peeps dont give a damn about America, they simply want to line their pockets.

    Trump stands in their way.

They will spend millions to demonize Trump in favor of someone who will sell out their country.

You know who that someone is, dont you....

I don't really care about conspiracy theories, but it is nice to finally hear Trump fans admitting that he's an anti-free trade candidate.

Im not talking about conspiracy theories. Im talking about the US trade deficit, and how outsourcing job to foreign countries hurts the American economy.

There is no such thing as free trade. China applies a tariff to all our goods at the point of entry. America allows their products, built with slave labor, to enter free of tariffs. It creates a market where US manufacturers cannot compete.

look if you dont know what your talking about, just admit it.

Our economy is not a zero sum game. I'm used to explaining this to economic liberals, but not conservatives.

To their economic detriment. Economics 101: protectionism is generally bad.

Hey, if you want to sanction them for slave labor, let's go for it.

Manufacturing is not the only wing of our economy, and our manufacturing sector benefits from cheap goods that we import. And while our manufacturing is weaker than it has been in the past, "cannot compete" is base alarmism.

But I'm happy to see a Trump supporter who is actually willing to talk about Trump. Such a rare sight.

Considering Cheney is a Bush man and his company moved to a Muslim country to avoid paying USA taxes, there is no surprise he opposes Trump.

I'm anti free trade. "Free trade" combined with government regulations and unrestricted immigration destroyed American industry and American jobs.

There is no evidence that immigration of any kind -- legal or otherwise -- has had any long-term negative impact on employment. Again, the economy is not a zero-sum game. It's the same thing that anti-industrialists during the Industrial Revolution: "Machines will take away our jobs." And yet, there were more jobs after industrialization, not fewer.
