Chicago Cubs Win World Series!!!!!

It was a great game and a good series overall. I was pulling for Cleveland, as my dad is from the area, but both teams played their hearts out and deserved to win. (If Chicago had been playing any other team, I would have been rooting for the Cubs). Cleveland showed a lot of guts in the way they came back to tie the game at 6, but it just wasn't quite enough. I still think the 2011 World Series was the best in my lifetime so far though.

 

Harry Carey used to be the radio guy for the Cardinals.

I met Carey numerous times, but he was always drunk and babbling. I have a couple of his autographs tho, on a ball and on a jersey which is kinda cool....

I'm just stoked the Cubs finally did it...... I will say this much tho. In the 8th when the Cubs blew that lead and the Indians tied it up I was like "here we go again"...

There couldn't have been a more exciting match up. For it to go 7 games and into extra innings is a testament to how evenly matched these two teams were. A lot of the predictions before the series started predicted the Cubs were going to dominate, but they didn't. Indians came back in game 7 after being down many runs and tied it up. It could have gone either way.

Indians fans seem to be pretty classy about this, too. 70 years without a win is a long time, and it must suck for them the day after the loss, but they seem to be happy on some level to see the Cubs overcome a 108 year drought. I think everybody is, even non baseball fans.

 

Obama is a Sox fan.....

 

I haven't been watching, but has Will Ferrell done his Harry Carey impression yet? Maybe on SNL?

 

I don't know..... I don't really watch TV and definitely not SNL. lol

Bill Murray was around tho acting goofy...

 

Epic stuff that baseball and this country need more of. Surreal!

I'm from North Side and I've been a lifelong fan since my dad took me to Wrigley when I was a little kid to watch the Cubs play in the Friendly Confines. I can't believe they've finally won the World Series.

They couldn't find their butts with both hands a few years ago and now Theo's built a great young team that's capable of doing something really special in the next few years. Hopefully, unlike some of the previous owners, the Ricketts will do what it takes to keep these guys together.

 

Hopefully they won't do what the Angels did back in 2003.... start trading off their best players immediately after they won the World Series

 

I called it for the Cubs in 6, thinking that they would lose to Kluber, but beat everyone else. I wrote them off after losing game 4. No way were they going to win 3 straight, cause they are the Cubs.

Maddon almost lost this series by having too short of a leash on his starters and not giving his bull pen any leash at all. Even if they only saw 1 or 2 batters, the Cubs have the arms to play matchups and take a bit of the load off Chapman. Game 7, Hendricks had at least another batter or 2 in him. So did Lester. That would have given Chapman the ball in the bottom of the 9th in a clean innning and 2+ run lead.


Slightly off topic, MLB needs to go to electronic balls and strikes, I dont care that it upsets the umpires. It amazes me that this league allows the attitude and prejudices of the umpires to dictate games. Umpires eyes may have been good enough in the 80's when 95% of the MLB pitchers were throwing low 90s with no movement on their fastball. It isnt working when pitchers are throwing 95 with 12"+ of movement on their fastball. /rant

 

Gawd, I hope not. The previous owners of the Cubs used to let their best players leave without even bothering to win a World Series (Hall of Fame pitcher Greg Maddux immediately comes to mind), which is why they were so bad for so long.

By the way, your hunch about Obama is right - he's supposedly a White Sox fan.

 

Hey, I can relate to that.

I've been a lifetime Red Sox fan, so I can truly understand the misery that Cub fans had to go through for all those years. (And we only had to wait 86 years)

I watched the entire series, rooting for the Cubs. Then listening to know-it-alls claiming that when it was 3 games to 1, Cleveland was going to win it all.

But I kept a couple things to myself: 1) Cleveland went with only 3 starting pitchers, and 2) Chicago's bats were bound to come around, they were just too good.

 

They'll probably build a shrine to Joe Maddon.

 

Another loss for the racist logo! I think it's fitting that the Cubs stomped them into the ground.

 

I was watching game 5 when I realized the Cubs were down 3-1 games. I stopped watching because I didn't think they had a chance of going 3 straight. Amazing comeback. Reminded me of when I stopped watching game 6 of the 2002 series when the Angels were down 3-2 games, staring at a 5-0 Giants lead in the top of the 7th inning. They scored 6 runs in the 7th and 8th innings and kept that lead all the way to win game 6. They then took game 7.

 

Tell that to Aroldis Chapman when he blew the nice lead we had in the 8th.

 

Now I wish the Indians would have won.

 

Home town?

He's from Hawaii, lived in Indonesia briefly, attended college in New York and Los Angeles, and then in Massachusetts. Do you know what a "home town" is?

 

If the Cubs had lost, Maddon would have for sure been the scapegoat. Chapman has a below average slider other than his fastball. It's his only other pitch and he can barely control it. His fastball is fantastic and features a cutting action when he's on. Clearly, fatigue got the best of him. Thankfully, the same happened to kluber and miller. I said it all series if the Cubs wanted to win, they had to find a way to beat Kluber and Miller.

 

One thing Back to the Future II got (nearly) correct. It was just off a year and they weren't up against Miami.

That was part of his charm.

 

Fowler and Chapman are the only guys up for Free Agency this year. Most of their young core (bryant, rizzo, russel, Baez, Schwarber, contrearas) as well as their Vets (lester, arrieta, zobrist, heyward, hendricks, lackey) are under contract for multiple years (with the exception of Arrieta who has one year left).

I think we might see good baseball in Chicago (from the north side at least) for a few years to come.
