China could overtake the U.S. and become the Number #1 economy in the world sooner than previously anticipated....

    https://www.scmp.com/economy/china-...us-worlds-top-economy-2032-despite-washington

The thought seems to be that because of the 'pandemic' (among other things), China will overtake the United States economically (at least), by perhaps as early as 2027 or 2028.

Hoping that maybe this thread can survive as written, I'll just leave it at that and welcome your comments and/or viewpoints.

I didn't think anyone ever has doubted this was going to happen it was only a slight question of when.

America is losing Superpower status and it's time people start governing like that instead of us being a world leader.

It's time that other nations will lead like China, Russia and Germany.

Our tech is keeping us relevant but that's not going to outdo the myriad of other internal issues that will weaken us.

And many nations no longer consider America a power player and treat us as just another nation.

For China to win out over the USA in the long run, China has to survive this current, difficult time. The CCP is near the brink of collapse as more and more bad news keeps piling up.

Their dam broke and flooded their fields, there goes their agriculture. No food!

China's artificial islands in the South China sea are sinking.

Their citizens are shivering in the cold as China's ban on coal from Australia has backfired.

And, of course, there's my own thread: CCP is about to Collapse and China could break into 7 countries.

We only have ourselves to blame.
Saint Ronnie the Raygun, the end all be al for the far right put us on his supply side economics (trickle down) where demand is driven by supply, for the rightists, that means the cheaper goods are the more people buy. On paper it works, sort of, in real life it forces companies to lower costs and the 'bottom line' becomes king. best way to lower cost is move off shore where you can get labor at pennies on the dollar. Gee who didn't see that coming?
China at the time was an emerging economy with very low wages and.....surprise, all our manufacturing packed up and move driven by that and wouldn't you know it, tax cuts for doing so! Stock prices went up, the rich got richer which is the ONLY thing the GOP cares about and cycle of more tax cuts for the rich got off to a full gallop. Praise be to Ronnie!
As time goes on more and more industry and mfg moves to China all in the name of cheaper **** to buy and higher stock prices, enter the internet and viola any idiot in any trailer park in the fly over states can now order direct from China! Again who didn't see this coming.
Fast forward to today and the pandemic and we have a first hand lesson on the supply chain and how it is broken and just how much of our cheap stuff comes from China and the almighty stock prices keep going up and the rich keep getting richer and everyone is waiting for it to start to trickle down.

Somehow in the world of the radical right it's the democrats and China fault.
    Praise be Saint Ronnie!

... and THAT is definitely a hallmark of a nation that is on its way straight DOWN....

All China would need to do is invest a relatively small amount of money in American politicians and those politicians could then make life easy and profitable for China. China has spies everywhere in this country and who knows who they're blackmailing, Swalwell and Biden could be among those being blackmailed.

One thing I didn't mention is that China's trade partners are also starting to turn away from China. I saw a YouTube video about it, though it would be a pain to track down that video again.

I'm not specifically afraid of the Chinese spies right now. A single politician can't do much.

    China is a nation that
    1) Has three times the population compared to the US.
    2) Invests heavily in innovation, technology and projects around the world.
    3) Has a highly-motivated and educated work force.

Based on this, it would be surprising if they didn't overtake the US as the world leading sooner or later.

What we need to do: Outcompete China on the innovation and technology front. That means we need to invest into education, research, technology, clean energy. What we do: Keep investing in out-dated energy and we keep attacking public education.

This "war" is not won by tariffs, trade restrictions etc. It is won by investment into the future. Unfortunately, one of our two parties seems to disagree with this concept.

A while back I saw that a lot of companies are either leaving China and cancelling plans to move to China because of their virus.

How does clean energy play into this? And the irony here is the Biden's are neck deep in energy and it isn't the clean kind.

What weakened us initially is our American based companies selling out our own workers and using Chinese labor which was obviously cheaper than American labor. That was followed by our American companies giving away our manufacturing technology in the guise of "joint" ventures.

Our slide started with us giving up our car industry. It started with American car companies being too arrogant and caring about surface style changes rather than quality. The Japanese ate our lunch by producing high quality cars and keeping prices in check. The Japanese were the first to bundle options into packages therefore were able to use the economies of scale to deliver options.

Back to China! We were out negotiated by the Chinese and Trumpocity the "great imposter" and useless negotiator did nothing to even slow the flow of American jobs to China.

    How to be useful prole:
Always but always blame the American middle class, they are evil and are to blame for all of America's problems.. Never but never blame the corrupt corporate leaders who moved their factories over there or the corrupt politicians who let them.

Hardly fair to blame just Trump for not fixing a problem that's been happening since the 70's and to his credit he is the only president that has acknowledged it and specifically dealt with it.

As for why it happened I'm sure there are many reasons but we do know it is.

Even our military is going to fall behind but frankly I am fine with it.

Let other nations lead for awhile.

It is essentially a statistic. It is also a population weighted statistic. They have 4 times the population of the US. It is pretty hard to overcome that statistic with that deficit. I doubt it will make much difference to the average citizen. There are many other statistic that we do badly on that would impact peoples lives much more if we increase our standing such as education level, education quality, health care system, etc... that are not population based. We should concentrate on improving those.

Well anything is possible. If the USA or any other nation for that matter is going to get ahead in manufactoring, it has to be on 3D printing and auotmation. Doing that would put the Chinese cheap labor in an eventual death spiral.

In addition, AI will be necessary for the future to compete, all other nations are or will be doing the same.

They will probably overtake us in GDP in 2021 unless we suddenly see a rather dramatic increase in economic activity in the next few weeks??

Yes, but what was primarily "their" Chinese virus is now -- in a very real sense -- everybody ELSE'S virus....

Kind of amazing how quickly the Chinese rebounded from a problem that barged into the rest of the world from within THEIR borders.... :buggered:

If the middle class bought less Chinese product, the U.S. economy would be better off.

    This is the reality.

And the only thing Trump found to counter Chinese imports was to start a trade war that the Americans financed 100%.

As others have mentioned, this would be expected from the continued industrialization of a country with 1.2 billion people.

Being #1 is nice, and per capita we will still exceed China, but we should concentrate on things we can control. China has shown they will go elsewhere to buy soybeans, but they do need us as customers. Trade agreements should focus on democracy in Hong Kong and human rights. There are other sources of cheap labor in southeast Asia. We should invest and trade with them. Either way, China overtaking the #1 spot in GDP shouldn't be alarming.
