What is not clear is why the top-most leadership of China ever let him make this kind of public accusation in the first place. What's next?

We probably made it. They probably stole it. Most likely it then either got loose or they let it loose on themselves.

Its not impossible that we attacked them with it. But if we had, we'd have been better prepared for it. In the 'who benefits' dynamic, I think we have a lot more to lose from this sort of high infection/low mortality kind of weapon. China has been complaining about having too many dependants draining their system for a long time, and while its certainly hurting their economy, their command and control capabilities will allow them to bounce back relatively quickly.

This is most likely an attempt at misdirection.

The Chinese government is intent on blaming the U. S. Army for causing this virus to spread in their country.

And, as I've pointed out for a very long time, Xi Jinping is very intelligent! He knows he's got the 'winning hand' in this game, so long as he can maintain power in China. His 'winning hand' is the fact that no less than 80% of all the pharmaceutical medicines (or the component materials required to make them) come from CHINA! He can lift one hand and HALT the shipment of life-saving medicine to the United States, and to save his own ass, don't think for a moment that he wouldn't do exactly that!
