I have a friend who is a resident alien from Argentina who has lived here for decades and he is a great person and friend.
Having said that I don't think he deserves a vote and a person who is not actually a citizen just doesn't have the stake in things
that an actual citizen would have.
It's a close call but I would have to come down against voting privileges.

I believe that local governments should be able to determine things like that for their own elections.

Why shouldn't be be allowed to vote for his city council/mayor? If he's lived in that town for years, I would think he should be able to vote over people who have just moved their. That said, I only think this for state/local elections. Federal elections should be citizens only.

Of every logical thinking person would see that by definition illegal aliens are automatically non citizen there are no other way that it can otherwise.

Yup. This. I'm a state's rights person and am therefore very much a county/local rights person. I would be enraged if someone decides to let green card holders or documented immigrants vote in the federal election (POTUS, Senator, Congress) but I have to say I don't really care what local jurisdictions decide to do. If this works for the people of College Park, it's none of my business, because it has exactly zero impact on me. I also don't care about their opinions on our local elections.

on this i agree with you. albeit some of these local elections can be done on a single sticky note, i believe voting in any us election should only be done by its citizens.

i guess these local elections are just using residence as the discriminator

Notice how they didn't vote to let illegals hold office. There are limits to the "progressive" willingness to share power...

    Thats a good point

What if we could elect illegals to run the government and pay them only 25% of what the US citizen liberals in government were making?

I could see the progs going along with that. If you pay the illegals too much money they might wind up turning into Republicans...

Because their citizenship is with another country. It's enough of a privilege for them to be working and living here without having gone through the citizenship process, and they're welcome to join the PTA if they're so interested in their kids' school.

Any break, benefit or privilege you give them...any at all...tells them they belong here. The law says they do not. People bestowing these privileges need to be held accountable.

Once a person is on the voter rolls he will get the standard ballot which includes the federal offices.

What the dummies did is basically allow the illegals to take over the school system and to increase property taxes on all property owners. The citizens should run the city council out of town. Anyone with any sense will sell and move out before the real estate market there collapses. Only nitwits want illegal aliens and non-citizens to vote.

If Florida can give different ballots to people in different parties, I'm sure that the city can deal with separate ballots for citizens vs. non-citizens. Heck, in early voting, I show my ID, and they give me the proper ballot for my precinct, which can be different from other ballots.

I agree about illegal aliens not voting--they shouldn't be in the country. I see nothing wrong with resident aliens voting in local elections.

If they are on the voter rolls there's nothing to stop them from voting in federal elections.

Actually, they do have a right to be here Rich, if they are here legally.

You don't have to be a citizen to live in College Park, MD, and you can live there legally with a green card.

But if they live in College Park and pay taxes that fund the schools, they actually should be able to have a say in it. Only if they are legal residents, I mean.

Sometimes it takes a while to become a citizen of the USA. Actually, all the time it takes a while. Let's say you're a Chinese man who comes here with your family, because you were hired to be the CTO of a technology firm. The USA isn't going to hand you your citizen card the day you land in Dulles. You can live in a town, pay taxes there, and be working towards your citizenship. If the town can manage the process so that you are only voting on local issues, what's the harm to anyone else?

Certainly, and if this is all it was aimed at I wouldn't have even bothered to chime in, however it seemed in the opener it mentions those and "undocumented immigrants"...which of course is the kind that isn't supposed to be here.

To give them any allowances fosters their belief that they have some right to be here.
