    Exactly.
Nobody died because Trump gave bad advice; that was my point.

It would have been wiser for him to not offerup nonsensical " advice." The fact that no one died (as far as we know ) from it.......is a very low barometer IMHO People tend to look up to their leaders and listen to what they say. When people are scared (as in a pandemic)...... the might try anything. This is why leaders have to be careful as to what they say. Responsible speach requires the ability to self filter . Words really do matter.

People listen to the President's advice. Take for example his advice on the virus. List the states in order of cases per million, available on worldometers.info, and observe how closely it matches the voting pattern. Is this a coincidence or listening to advice or some other reason?

Well, sure. I'm no fan of Trump's wild musings being thrown out of his mouth while on the Presidential Podium.
Hm. Well, how about if I revise it to say that nobody smart died due to his advice?

With 126K yesterday and 127K new cases today, which are the highest peaks ever seen here in the US, this week is going to be very bad. Usually we see a big drop in the number of cases on weekends and esp Sundays. We may break the 200K new cases per day mark soon.

We are expecting to see the number of deaths per day go from 1000 now, to nearly 3000 deaths per day by the first of the year.

For a moment. :) A brief post election visit. I'm not going to post somewhere where my post are deleted even if I haven't violated any rules... and the rules change by the hour.

I have seen interviews with several people who blame trump directly for killing family members. They listened to trump and dismissed the threat, got sick and died.

It is a no-brainer to recognize that trump has easily killed over 100,000 people. He is guilty of mass murder. He is the greatest mass murderer in US history.

That is beyond a doubt. His lies and crackpottery have caused millions of people to dismiss the science and the threat. This means beyond a doubt that trump has a great deal of blood on his hands.

Now will trump-loving moderators allow the truth to be stated plainly? I seriously doubt it. I am sure this will be deleted in the morning.

...However note that all of the crackpot posts by people without a clue will be left intact. I'm an actual scientist. My posts will be deleted but posts made by people with mental issues making ridiculous claims are fine.

    The debate continues.
    Vindication of HCQ
Because of the medication’s politicization, and the pernicious tendency for dissenting perspectives to be silenced during the pandemic, data supporting hydroxychloroquine’s effectiveness have been almost inaudible. But a recent analysis pooling together results of randomized clinical trials testing hydroxychloroquine’s use in early COVID-19 infection should substantially raise the volume.

It's too early to dismiss anything about this, but there does seem to be some question about how accurate this study is. Some of the wording is suggestive more than definitive. "HCQ was associated with a 24% reduction in COVID-19 infection, hospitalization or death," suggests other factors not mentioned may have played a role. Another thing that suggests caution here is that this study has not been peer-reviewed. Plus, the author is someone who "acknowledges past advisory consulting work with two of the more than 50 manufacturers of hydroxychloroquine...". Though she claims no conflict of interest, she does do consulting work and that might point to a conflict of interest in the results.

Yes, the debate might continue, but what exactly are we debating?

There are two papers. One is a preprint, so presumably peer review is under way. The other is in the American Journal of Medicine, so my guess is that it was peer-reviewed. Regardless, my personal point is that with so much politicization of a clinical topic, I'd like to err on the side of inclusion. I lived in Africa for twelve years; that's a lot of HCQ. Hence my interest.

But the HCQ was not used for treating Covid-19 until very recently. I don't thing the question is whether or not it is safe or can have positive effects, but if it's as effective and if it is preventative in any way.

You're right about the politics of all this. It seems the President promoted it more as a way to keep from us from taking preventative measures like closing businesses. His opposition attacked it as ineffective. I can't say it's ineffective, but it's not like a vaccine or a cure.

Yup. When I took it that was as an anti-malarial. I don't have a dog in the COVID-19 fight. I just don't like to see scientific decisions made on political grounds.

It is at the very best a depressant, but at the quantity it needs to be used for Covid it is dangerous.

I used the drug against Malaria. Very low dose for that disease. But still even young and extremely healthy, you have to quit using it after 4 weeks. It takes about 4 weeks to flush it out. The list of possible side effects is 2 pages long.
I had the minimum side effect, after 4 weeks, with a dosage a c19 needs per day, a 4 weeks dosage.
My skin turned yellowage, time to stop, flush out, the liver gets effected.
I never got Malaria over the 3 years I used it, but got several times to the point were my liver screamed, stop it please, give me a Scotch.

why would it be deleted?? There are a lot of people who see Trump as being RESPONSIBLE for the out of control pandemic that has caused so much grief, illness and death. People can believe whatever they want as long as their beliefs are not imposed on others or create problems for others.

This pandemic is an opportunity for folks to build bridges and deal withit together in a sensible , intelligent and informed manner.
