How did DeSantis "admit he violated their rights?" That doesn't make any sense. The quote you cited just said DeSantis is happy that Disney stopped their public political fight after their skirmish. That's not an admission of guilt. And he wasn't "butthurt." He was bragging.

Also, the Florida legislature changed the process to get on the Reedy Creek board. DeSantis did not have the authority to make the changes himself. The district was created by the legislature and is a purely political entity under the control of Florida's government. Disney is not Ready Creek. Disney does not have a right to control Reedy Creek in perpetuity by crying that they were "targeted." The state legislature can amend laws. That's why they exist.

Are they still talking about leaving Florida because that would be awesome.

We have plenty enough other tourist attractions and beaches that it wouldn't be the end of the world for us.

I don’t have much legal knowledge but I was surprised with the Judge throwing away the case. But what do I know. I am sure Judge has good reason.

But what surprising to me is that MAGA are using this verdict to vindicate Ron the Sanctimonious. Which is fine. That have every right to do so.

But .. just wait few more days, the same MAGA who now like the court verdict will turn around against judges and court and call them biased as soon as a court/judge give verdict against Trump.

I also admit I amazed that even a trump / federalist judge would blatantly rule that freedom of speech is so meaningless to the magas but I don’t guess anything they do should be surprising any longer.

    Thankfully the appeal process exists

My comments were based on Disney getting a fair trial, which they are not.

I love that you've changed from your prior tune on this forum that corporations aren't people. Funny how you strongly believe in something so differently when it isn't about censoring conservatives. Disney filed a lawsuit against three entities:

    1. The governor
    2. The Secretary of the Department of Commerce
    3. The board members of the District Disney operates in

Notably absent from this list are the legislators who crafted and passed the bill.

    1. Governor DeSantis must take action. Let's look at the inverse of what would happen if a veto-proof majority in the Florida legislature said, "We hate DeSantis, we love Disney, we are granting more power to the Reedy Creek District." What can DeSantis do? If he ignored the bill and refused to sign or veto it, Disney would have sued him for not taking action. Disney has no standing to sue a Governor in federal court for signing a constitutional bill passed by the legislature. DeSantis has no option but to take action. He can't "recuse" himself from doing his duty. They have no standing to sue DeSantis in federal court.

The same story is true for the Secretary of the Department of Commerce. Disney has no standing to sue the Secretary in federal court for executing a constitutional law as intended. They have no standing.

Then, the board members did their job the same as Disney did when they controlled the board. When Disney controlled the board, did they make decisions that may not have been in the best interest of every landowner? Of course. That doesn't mean their actions are unlawful. This is less about speech than it is about whether or not the federal government can retract state laws if a corporation claims they were targeted, while that corporation admits they weren't directly targeted.

Look at it this way. Let's say there are laws that dictate how homeowner's associations must operate in Florida. Then, one day, a major company comes in and buys up all the available land and starts its own executive fiefdom within the state, controlling everything and all the other landowners in these zones, while also getting involved in politics. Then the legislature says, we don't want this corporation holding all the power over this land anymore, so we're going to change the homeowner's association laws to give the power back to the people and their elected representatives. Florida has the right to do that. If Disney didn't want a legal battle with the legislation of Florida they shouldn't have inserted themselves into the politics of laws that didn't pertain to them.

Also, Disney isn't Reedy Creek. The Disney Corporation bringing the lawsuit rather than Reedy Creek was odd. The Reedy Creek board is an independent entity. The whole thing was a mess and it's amazing that so many people thought Disney had legal standing to bring these lawsuits in the way that they did against the people they targeted.

Not really. This will absolutely be appealed, and this decision did not decide the merits of the case, only 'standing', which seems to be Windors go-to excuse when striking down lawsuits against De Santis.

I remember when trumpers were upset about single judges (just 60 different times) ruling against trump on standing — but they cheer one judge doing so as a testament to justice.

I don’t know if cognitive dissonance is to blame, or if it’s more the Dunning Krueger effect

Simple question for you — do you believe that the state should be able to punish private business making a statement that they disagree with a law?

It’s a yes or no question

And by the way, corporations are not people, but they are run by people. Which means they should have the freedom of speech again government retaliation

And where you go wrong, the state made the law and Disney benefitted then got political and the state made a new law. That is democracy and why most businesses are smart enough to stay out of politics. Either way this can be appealed to the supreme court but no court is going to allow disney to make its own law.

    You didn’t answer the question

So you think that states should be able to target businesses if they say something the state doesn’t like, correct?
