Not really, there never was an official Limbo Doctrine. In 2006, the Pope just clearly said that we don't know.

Again, a typical right wing conspiracy.

My threads are usually directed towards the denial rights based on religion, the violence encouraged by religion, and the fear imposed by religion. Not so much an obsession, but a hope that atleast a few people will read it and think "wow......... I guess it is possible to live a meaningful life without all of this baggage". This is rather obvious and does not require a vast conspiracy of me "obsessing" over religion because I actually believe I will be punished for free thought and some how through some illogical mechanism criticizing a vile and malevolent god will help me avoid punishment. Makes about as much sense as creating a woman from a mans rib.

Do good for the sake of doing good, not because it scored you brownie points or reduces the risk of some imagined eternal suffering. Good for the sake of good is real and legitimate, the latter is fake. Its not that hard. No hateful and fear inducing doctrines needed.

Reality is often simpler and easier to illustrate than vast non-nonsensical conspiracy theories. I have explained this more than once to you and others, yet the default position is a ridiculous conspiracy theory.

Well, that's not true. In a parable, Jesus says Abraham is in heaven. Moses and Elijah appeared to Jesus in glory. So obviously, they're in heaven too.

IOW, you're preaching anti-religion? Hoping someone will listen to you?

Read that statement as if it was being said by a man of the cloth. You're an anti-religion evangelist... trying to influence people's lives thru your own personal beliefs. Only difference between your preaching and that of a real preacher? They've got the Bible to back them up. You've got nothing. :(

Not anti-religious. I quite honestly do not care if people are faithful and believe in a god.

What I do care about is when people use that faith as a basis or excuse for their bigotry. The Bible is akin to nothing given that the number of things that must be ignored or justified by apologists to make it work in the modern world.

Give me a religion that does not deny basic civil rights, condone mass murder and genocide, and encourages tolerance and understanding for all, and you will see I don't have a problem with it. However, that is not the case. You have a population, which the majority of, possess a particular belief system. They use this belief system to deny people basic civil rights, reject sciences, etc. etc. etc. Usually because of the fear associated with questioning this dogma.

So again, your conspiracy theory ignores the obvious.

Technically I think the doctrine is that ALL people are judged according to their sins.
But those who "know Christ" are given the equivalent of a get-out-of-jail-free card.
The kicker is that being sin-free is virtually impossible, so pretty much anyone who isn't Jesus' buddy with the exception of a few special people, will not make it to Heaven.

Basically Heaven reflects the typical earthly institution: inflated, unrealistic standards for eligibility, with exceptions made based on who you know.

The all important question on the day of judgement for the unbelievers will be, 'What have you done with My Son'?

I think most churches smudge the edges because by that teaching, babies can't go to heaven and it is generally bad form to tell a parent whose child just died that they are in hell (though I did go to a funeral once where the minister said of the dead that he may very well be in hell because he didn't attend his church so he didn't know). Some Christians don't believe in hell, but putting those ones aside, the general consensus doctrine is that one has to have heard God's message and rejected it to go to hell. If you have not heard it (i.e. the pre-Jesus, babies, etc) then you will be judged by a different standard.

“I guess it’s possible to live a meaningful life without all of this baggage? Yeah, I suppose, if you think Christianity is just another ‘feel good about yourself’ cult movement. It’s called cheap grace.

And what would be wrong with that?
    Would a "feel-bad-about-yourself"-movement be better?
