Do you believe that Trump will testify in rebuttal to Comey?

Karl pointed out to Trump that Comey had made these statements under oath and asked the president — who has a long and well-documented history of telling falsehoods — whether he would be willing to provide his version of events under oath.

“One hundred percent,” Trump said.

Karl also asked if he was willing to speak about the issue with Robert S. Mueller III, the former FBI director who is now leading the Russia investigation as special counsel. Trump said he would.

“I would be glad to tell him exactly what I just told you,” Trump said.

 

The thing is he does not think what he does is lying. There is a degree of self delusion there. He continually rewrites reality in his own mind and externalises anything that does not fit the picture "me as a great and wonderful wizard"

 

Every lawyer is saying they would never advise him to testify under oath. That is what got Bill Clinton into trouble for something entirely unrelated to the point of the investigation.

Trump is using his personal lawyer and not an expert in the field.

Who knows. Will he listen to good legal advice? Not if it becomes a matter of ego. So really... Hillary and comedians should taunt him into it by taking pot shots.

Hillary should start tweeting how Trump will never testify under oath because he knows he's guilty. And the "two hookers" story is one he won't want to touch".

Personally, I think his lawyers, after they change their pants, will be all over him to not testify. It's one thing to lie to the public but to lie under oath to the Senate gets you impeached.

 

He said that he would release his tax statements, 'after the audit'. His "100%" statement falls into that category, since it defuses the issue for now.

 

I think it is inevitable that if he testifies he WILL lie. It will be interesting to see how much pressure they will put on him to testify

 

Sooo...would a legal expert come forth and explain why Comey's written notes are any more solid evidence than his word? I believe Comey has already shown a lack of integrity in the different treatment he showed Lynch as opposed to Trumps "supposed " suggestions. In the former he complied and the latter he leaked so that a special prosecutor might be appointed.

 

Because it is a recording done at the time it occurred ergo has more weight

 

He testified under oath. He opened himself up to 20 years in prison if caught in a lie. If Trump has the infamous tapes then Comey is toast unless they confirm what he said.

 

Documentation of discussions are legal evidence. It's that simple. Beyond that, he discussed it with other FBI people at the time. This shows it isn't a matter of a disgruntled employee making this up after the fact. Now the investigators will look for corroborating evidence, such as, did he ask everyone to leave the room? Did he ask anyone else for loyalty oaths. Are there any tapes.

Then there is the issue of credibility. This is where Trump is an idiot if he testifies under oath. When they catch him in a lie, it will further diminish his credibility.

 

Do be so gullible. Trump is a lying thug who made a living scamming people. Comey is a lifelong public servant, top notch lawyer, and a leader in law enforcement.

You misunderstand me I wouldn't believe Trump if he said he had the best ever bowel movement. Comey testified under oath despite Trump alluding to having tapes. This tells me that Comey doesn't fear the tapes. If he feared the tapes his answers would have been far less specific. Instead he essentially said "bring it on Trump". Trump has so far responded with his usual deflections. His comment that reporters will "be disappointed" when he reveals if the tapes actually exist or not can be construed both ways. It probably means they'll be disappointed that they don't exist, since Watergate tapes are always in demand. But he is playing it cagey so that his base can have a few days believing that he has tapes that refute what Comey said. A few days have shown again and again that with them his followers get it imprinted into their psyches that the lie is the unshakable truth.

I am not a liberal, and my view is that Bowerbird has hit the nail on the head. I don't understand how his base doesn't see what is obvious about Trump, because his working class base is being left out in the cold by Trump.

 

And everything Comey said was shaped by the fear that those tapes might exist.
Hence even the hyper partisan hack Chris Matthews says that as far as Trump is concerned the Russian collusion story is dead. The only disagreement was over the so-called loyalty oath.

And Comey said publically that "lordy" he hopes that there ARE tapes! I don't know what cave you've been living in.

Just watched it on TV an hour ago. But no that isn't an exact quote, but it is an accurate summation. Of course comey did after he tailored his words to make sure that any such tapes would reflect what he said.

As a Brit outsider, can I just make the observation that Don has often said he wants "winners" on his team, so if Comey was a winner, Don wouldn't have fired him would he?

 

First, they will lean on him for the non existant tapes.

When he makes a big show of blustering and strutting while refusing to produce them.... they'll trade tapes (that don't exist) for testimony.

 

I couldn't possibly care less what you choose to believe you and your buddies have been in a continuing state of denial since the 2nd week of last November. You will see what you wish to see. Comey's Testimony put a giant stake through the heart of the Russian collusion crap stating that almost everything the media has said about it was categorically false. And verified that Trump had never been under investigation.

And I see that you've added to your collection of false claims. We do not know which NYT story was false. But there have been so many stories from so many sources. Events have proven that most of them are true. There is little doubt that Comey, not Trump was telling the truth about what was said in that meeting. Trump lied about the dinner. We know that already.
