80% of people starving in the world are in Gaza. Where in the rest of the world this is due to famine, in Israel, it’s purposeful genocide.

The civilians don’t get food? No problem, they can go down into the tunnels to take it from their Hamas overlords or overwhelm the Egyptian border en masse. Would you be ok with starving the entire populace of Gaza to death, so long as that killed Hamas operatives there, so long as Hamas holds hostages? That appears to be the position of the men quoted by Time Magazine in the OP.

Please read the OP and statements of officials quoted in it. A complete siege and no food going in... would mean no food going in. You don't believe these Israeli government officials? Why would they lie?

Whether you believe it is true or not, would you consider a complete food siege on Gaza acceptable or unacceptable if true?

The vilest of war crimes are being committed by Israel right now. Israel's focus should expand from hunting down just Hamas to add hunting down the Likud party. They are every bit as vile as Hamas. Both the Jewish people and the Palestinian people are wonderful, as are every people on earth. It is those with power that abuse it that need to be removed, Hamas and Likud both.

But in any case, preserving civilian life on both sides should be the number one priority. Everything else is secondary.

 

Israel has been accused of starving Gaza for over two decades. I'd very much like to see statistics about the number of people who died from starvation in Gaza during this period. Then we can talk about what's happening now.

I'll take Time and the various UN bodies seriously when they care about Israeli hostages and the tens of thousands of internally displaced Israelis as much as they care about Palestinians. As long as they ignore Israelis being imprisoned, starved, beaten, bombed, and forced to leave their homes, I won't take anything they say at face value.

No I'm not ok with it. The international community should petition immediately to allow any Palestinians who wish to do so to leave this hellhole.

 

Wow. These answers are disturbing. There will always be food insecurity during times of warfare because the chain of supply is inevitably broken, farmers cannot plant and water crops, people such as children and the elderly who are dependent on able bodied men for food access, find them suddenly gone etc. But the refusal to allow food, medicine in, is a war crime, as it should be. its an outrage that deserves global condemnation and eventual punishment.

Now we have a trickle of aide, where we need a river to flow, but no doubt that Israel is creating a bottleneck at every step in the process. Some of the bottleneck is due to a legitimate need to inspect for contraband, weapons etc, but overzealousness can lead to mass starvation. Hoarding, and profiteering by locals or power-brokers( Hamas or other gangs) intent on using food as a bargaining chip also another problem Its really hard to discern who is guilty of what anymore. Probably because both Hamas and Israel have motives to restrict and distribute food, water and medical care to reward and punish loyalty and disloyalty.

This war has lasted 4 months now. At this point, we would be naive to believe only one side is guilty while the other is innocent.

 

War is ugly enough without that kind of inhumane tactic. If humanity has not evolved beyond that kind of barbarism....... humanity is in serious trouble.

Why ?? They are not the problem. Hamas is. (and has been ) Along with every other fanatical group.

 

Laying siege to an enemy until they surrender has been practiced in war throughout history. The easy solution is... surrender.
