I agree that the workforce/laborers are a resource to an economy. I disagree that socialism depresses and consumes them though. I would argue that socialism builds up and strengthens those resources. Let me describe two scenarios for you and you tell me which one drains resources.

1. A system that extracts value from the worker and puts it in the hands of a small minority of the population leaving the majority in or near poverty.
   
2. A system that pays workers the value of their labor and does not reward the minority with capital simply for sake of having capital to begin with.

I would say the system that elevates the station of its resources is by far the more sustainable of the two. Would you agree?

 

Indeed you were suggesting a black vs white paradigm - and there is no such thing as "Capitalism vs Socialism" in any real sense as neither exists in a general sense.

So to answer your question - not sure If I would prefer a China style system to what passes for "Capitalism" in the west these days . getting to be a toss up .. which is scary .. more scary that you are unaware of this toss up..

You realize of course that at the far end of the political spectrum - Extreme Capitalism and Extreme socialism meet - In both cases you have a few elite controlling most resources and means of production - and making decisions.

 

The saddest thing about the whole Socialism vs. Capitalism as the OP presents it is that half of the countries on his "Socialist"
list have lower Debt to GDP ratios than the US. How is possible that "socialist" countries like Sweden and Norway have lower
debt then the US when they are paying for health care and education for their residents? Should the capitalist countries like
the US and Japan have the lowest debt ratios? They don't.

So when people like the OP go on the rants about
"socialist", I'm just reminded that the way governments spend money is more of an indicator than a political philosophy.

Venezuela was a failure because they spent far more money than they brought in. Sweden has been a success because
they keep a more realistic debt to GDP ratio. Japan has high debt to GDP ratio and their economy has stagnated. The US
has increased its debt to GDP ratio and the last three administrations haven't been able to get above a 3.0% GDP increase.

The type of government is less important than the spending habits of the government.

 

Anyone feel free to correct me if I am remembering incorrectly but I thought free market capitalism meant, among other things, no barriers to trade including tarrifs.

If this true it would be innacurate to claim Trump's economy was based on free market capitalism.

So? Carter, Clinton and JFK were not socialists. The issue of the thread is capitalism vs socialism not Trump vs democrats.

 

OWS refers to the growing economy because of Trump's intelligent policy to reduce taxes and to eliminate many if not all of obama's business strangling regulations. High taxes and high regulatory taxes always lead to a dying economy which can and should be called just another arm to the socialist ideology.
