I would hate to find myself in the top 1% of incomes. It is an IMMORAL thing and I would be ashamed of it. If I found myself in that situation, something would have to have gone terribly wrong.
Yeah, just like buffet and Gates feel, and that is why they are giving away every cent they have...after they die.
This thread is not allowing me to go to page 6. when I click on page 6, it keeps on bringing up page 5. Anyone else having the same trouble ? Note: this isn't happening in any other thread. In fact I've never even seen/heard of this before.
Other than money, I am a 3%er, in whatever I do. Money does not measure a person's skill or ability compaired to others. Money just evaluates how much worship you place on it and want it. Greed and desire. Some will stop at nothing for money.
This happens occasionally. The quickest way I've found to fix it is to post a reply. Doing so seem to fix the error.
I start a company, risking my own money. I work my butt off, [literally, I lost 40 lbs.] and the company grows. I hire hundreds of people. Not one of which gets paid only minimum wages rates. Some make more than $100K a year. And YOU deem that I'm immoral? My view of immoral is whining losers sucking off the public teat and never putting out their best effort. NEVER. They don't even know what their best effort is because they quit and whine before they start. That's IMMORAL! How many people earn a living from losers? NONE is the right answer.
Well, even politicians only get paid when the rich pay their taxes. The politician might get a job from those that vote, but they wouldn't get paid without the rich.
Well sure bribes count. But it is a myth that only the rich pay taxes, don‘t really care what the rich/elite’s thinking tanks suggest with their tricky math, and manipulated statistical bovine droppings. Any rich person who pays even half of what they are supposed to, under the current rich/elite tax code, is an idiot who needs a new accountant.
Any rich person who pays "half of what they are supposed to" is a criminal. There is a huge difference between hiring a good accountant to minimize your tax burden and criminally avoiding taxes. You seem not to know that. Merely taking advantage of the tax code is not wrong in any way. You do it yourself, if you work. You claim all your deductions and exemptions, as does everyone.
You would think so wouldn't you? Maybe in a world that doesn't cater to a specific class of people this would be a truism. Unfortunately off shore banking is a lucrative enterprise, and I don't believe 95% of the population use or take advantage of that system. When the working class average household pays a higher percentage of their actual income, but the average elitist doesn’t even pay the same percentage of the income they actual claim, it’s not the same system. But you knew that already.
I "knew" the situation you are proposing is unfair to some extent. However, what I don't know, and what you will need to prove, is your initial premise, which is that the situation exists in that way: That the "working class average household pays a higher percentage of their actual income [than the rich]"
Sure just as soon as the rich/elites start claiming all their income I'll get that info for you. Until then it should be obvious who the system is working for.
I'm curious, why do you lump the 47% who pay virtually no taxes with the 52% who are not in the top 1% but pay all the taxes. Why do you think we are banded together or have the same opinion on taxes?
It comes from the whole occupy wall street thing going on with their 99% and 1% stuff. As a result a number of posters here on PF had been railing against the 1%. I got curious about how many people think that the 1% could at some point include themselves. After all most people's careers see their income continually rising prior to retirement or may feature highs for various reasons, so by the time they've retired, far more than 1% of the population will have gotten into the top 1% for at least a while. So far it looks like a little under half of PFs think they've got a shot at least. Wildjoker5 also mentioned the 53/47 way of looking at things. That's pretty a pretty exact value for something that could be measured multiple ways. What does it come from?
Well let's say the demographic around here represents about 50% of the population and if half the 50% made to the top 1% it'd be the top 26% then.... That is based on hard numbers from the IRS.
They are all over the internet, the ratio is mentioned quite regularly on news shows and linked to here. Just go search tax revenues by group or quientile and you'll find plenty of links.
And it is a fool who puts apples and oranges together to compare. When people talk about the 53% of people that pay taxes, they are always talking about income taxes, not sales tax. Try to be a little more honest or a little less ignorant (your choice on what you were speaking about) when you try to make the claim that the poor pay income taxes. So, if a rich person pays all their income tax, then they are stupid. But if they hire someone whos paycheck will be taxed and they will have a job that the rich person pays them (has to be at least more than they cut from taxes) they are crooks? Does the poors' reason to hate the rich know no bounds?
