It sounds like you're uncomfortable with yourself. You shouldn't need to "know why", you just are. The search isn't going to get you anywhere as science isn't anywhere close to figuring it out, and psychology is BS for the most part. You just are. Be happy with that and screw all those that aren't (not literally of course...). I really don't like super religious people because they have to "figure it out", yet impose their BS on you as they do. I'm not saying you're like them (you haven't imposed anything, and you probably don't "impose" yourself on others in person), just, you don't need to figure it out, just enjoy yourself for who you are. I would usually say something like stop being a puss or something, but that would just have five people writing seven or so comments on how I was being a dick. Anyway, stop being a puss. There are mentally challenged people out there with small intellects that can't grasp that people can actually be different without having any negative affects on society. We all have to deal with those morons in different ways. ;)

No... What bothers them is that they are closet bisexuals. I've known too many that have proved me right on drunken nights at the bar.

"You are what you hate." I don't know who first said it, but it holds true when talking about sexuality amongst other things.

Also, I just posted this in the race & religion section somewhere (I'm tired), but the thought holds true here also. Just substitute the racist side for sexuality. I don't think Morgan Freeman said anything about sexuality, but it's a fun thought.

While there will always be a small segment of society that HATE others, for a variety of different reasons, given the fact that only 3.8% identify as being gay it becomes obvious that there are those who have hyped up being gay, beyond all rational proportions. The greatest majority are religious right activists who portray gay rights as being an offense to some deity they claim to represent. These are the only people it matters to. Speaking for myself as a bisexual, LGBT sub-forums in public venues are ground zero for those who hate gays hence all the confusion.

Yep. My most difficult encounters, have been dealing with those who either will not or cannot accept their OWN sexuality. In one case, I was accused (in public) of being a homosexual (even as they PRETENDED to be 'straight'), by the person I was having gay sex with. LOL!!!

I learned a lot EARLY in life from that.

If one believes homosexuality is a choice, then one has to believe heterosexuality is too. Anything else would be a huge contradiction.

Certainly you are born with your sexual orientation, Thinking anything else is just plain stupid.

It does matter where discrimination exists based on one's sexual orientation. If there was no discrimination regarding one's sexual orientation, then it would not matter if someone was Gay.

Normal variation in human sexuality? Population control? God's, if (s)he exists, twisted sense of humor?

    Most likely, no.

Jury is out on this, but indications point towards yes.

Evidence points towards that it is a factor, but more likely it's an inborn trait (see above).

No, it's nobody's business but your own and your partner's as to what sexual orientation you are.

But apparently it matters to other people. They've been raised in an environment that maybe doesn't tolerate varying from the "norm" and anything contrary to it. After all, if a basic core part of their being is called into question, what other parts of their life could be subject to challenges? Wheat or white toast? Scrambled or sunny side up eggs? Rare or well done? Parenting methods? What religion to follow? Political party affiliations? Traditional gender roles? Gender itself?

Gays being denied service from a governmental official, being dishonorably discharged / not allowed to serve in the military, being denied entry into a dying partners hospital room, being beaten, being slandered, being bullied, being killed... Yeh no problems here

I think your post was off, it is "christians" (quotes and lowercase as no real follower of Christ stands with you) who are claiming discrimination because they have to abide by the laws that govern all. Proven by both your examples.

Don't want to be affected by business law - don't open a business.
Don't want to have to issue marriage licenses - don't be a (*)(*)(*)(*)ing county clerk.

its a well meaning post but it is pretty damn presumptious. Sorry to break your stereotype, but people with a clinical interest in why they are what they are, are not nessisarily uncomfortable. Its curiosity. not need. Its interesting This is no different that if a ginger is interested in what determines hair color in people or folks with an unusual blood type are interested in why they are not type O. Believe it or not, lots of people who find out I am gay are interested in my opinion on what induces sexual orientation and they ask me. I am not remotely offended by the inquiry either. Three of those people were my own children. Two others were nephews. I want to know what we know and what we might know because curiosity is to be applauded. Even mine.

    Death[edit]
On 8 June 1954, Turing's housekeeper found him dead. He had died the previous day. A post-mortem examination established that the cause of death was cyanide poisoning. When his body was discovered, an apple lay half-eaten beside his bed, and although the apple was not tested for cyanide,[115] it was speculated that this was the means by which a fatal dose was consumed. An inquest determined that he had committed suicide, and he was cremated at Woking Crematorium on 12 June 1954.[116] Turing's ashes were scattered there, just as his father's had been.

The Imitation Game, watch this movie. Only 1 example of probably millions. And if would seem you would like things like suicide, castration, firing, humiliation to continue.
Shame on those who tear apart christianity for their petty immorally wrong beliefs.

And how many people are fired for being gay? How many people last year were fired solely because they were gay? Zero? The days of "gay victimization" are long over.

Heterosexuals have sued businesses because they were not serving heterosexuals? Prove it.

"5 years ago" - times have changed pal. Even 5 years ago, outside of the military, gays were not at risk of losing their job. The days when you could claim that gays are the victims is long over.

Now its the gays who destroy a business, bankrupt a family, and try to drive a mom and her 5 kids into homelessness, all because the gays could not get a cake from that person.

Ask Brendan Eich that question. For participating in a voter referendum he was targeted by the gays and driven from Mozilla - and is still unemployable because every potential employer is afraid of the gay mob. Ask David & Josh Benham, who's home repair tv show was canceled because their father is a preacher who teaches that homosexuality is a sin. Gays are not victims any longer, they are a pitchfork wielding mob.

That's ancient history. Even the marriage license issue is over and done. You have nothing to show gays are victims. You are living in the past and do not realize the gays won their fight for equality. So why are the gays still fighting? Could it be that its not really about equality but vengeance?

    - - - Updated - - -

Since when were gays divided by skin color? Or are you so devoid of proof that gays are victims that you have to hijack the history of the black civil rights struggle?

*shrug* That couple won't be served here, but "they could get one down the hall." Sounds familiar.

Ancient history is now a few months ago... Ok

Your own argument shows how gays are expected to "find another facility that serves their kind".
    You disprove your own claims.

Not so, as the constitution is not properly construed to protect activity which is diabolically motivated; and while there are many acts which cannot reasonably be pronounced diabolical per se, there are some which can, including homosexual acts.

"Ancient history" is meant not as a measure of time, it means that issue has been addressed, resolved, finished, and events have moved beyond it. Gays are no longer victims, they have not been real victims in years.

Look at the responses in this thread, to gays victimization means the law does not explicitly state in all 50 states that a gay cannot be fired - even though no gay is fired just for being gay. Its a mythical situation, but myth is reality to gays.

Or that they cannot get a marriage license from one person who has legitimate and legal authorized concerns, but can from other people in that same building. Rather then just get the license down the hall and pursue the matter on the side, the gays act like its the end of the world.

Everyone finds a facility that serves "their kind". No store serves every person. If you want hip-hop clothes, kosher food, vegan, green appliances, you go to a store that serves that type of clientele. If a Christian wants a wedding, they don't go to a Moslem baker or a Buddhist Temple, they go to people who "serve their kind".

But the gays aren't so tolerant, they seek out people who don't endorse the gay lifestyle. Gays just cannot stand it that someone somewhere does not think homosexuality is normal.

So having to go to a special counter is not discrimination?
I don't think you understand the definition of the word.

In your example, the multi-instance adulator banned everyone from the building from issuing licenses, reguardless of their personal beliefs.

The couple went to a bakery. They were not going clothes shopping, not looking for a car - they attempted to purchase a product sold and advertised to the general public. The beliefs of the bakery, as shown from the ruling, does not supersede public law.

Following your same methodology of "go where your kind is wanted" can be applied to the bakery as well. They should have opened business in an area more welcoming to their lifestyle - like Alabama or Iran.

The answer to the question in the OP is:

    Sometimes yes, other times no.

This is one significant aspect that gay people are actually dealing with. And ultimately, things come along that must be challenged/opposed... for the sake of people's humanity and rights.

Did you miss the graphic of all the states that do not have employment protection laws? Or housing protection laws? Marriage licenses were just one of many steps. I hear at least one story every spring where a same sex couple attempts to go to prom and the school won't let them or cancels the dance to prevent it.

There were laws against homosexuality itself in the states until 2003. Not enforced often, but that actually opened up gay people to breaking sodomy laws. Not to mention it's still illegal in other countries, some punishable by death.

You don't have to be fired to be discriminated against. Example: my gay boss was taken to a strip club with all of upper management to celebrate a big sale they landed. Not unheard of, although in banking not terribly professional. Whatever, I can get over that. What I can't get over is that the president and CFO bought my boss a lap dance from a woman just to see if this gay guy would get an erection.

Another story involving the same people: in a management team meeting they were doing a team building exercise and had to come up with team names. The president jokingly said my boss' team should be called the ass smashers. Clearly there was an underlying meaning there because it made one of my other straight bosses say something.

The point is that is discrimination at best, sexual harassment at worst. And at the time Colorado had no employment laws protecting him so he just took it.
