    Fairbloodydinkum Folks. Really?

    Link.

Donald says that California ought to rake the ground of debris.....just like Finland does......except......Finland doesn't, and the average temperature there is almost half that in California.

More on how Finland actually does manage what little threat there is.

Jayzuz Donald, just shut up. Was it Pleasure, Pain or Paradise??

    :hiding:

Maybe you should have gone to APEC and left Pence to fly the flag in California, ey?

Damn, his staff actually let him loose without any crib notes? Donny, you can't even get the name of the devastated town of Paradise CA correct - you called it Pleasure, were you having a Stormy flashback? Donny, stop talking about "raking forests" - you just look dumber than usual...and the president of Finland called you out on another of your lies. To top it off, the interview with Chris Wallace of Fox News was just batshit crazy....absolutely looney tunes.

Finns seem more than a little amused about the forest raking comment

Apparently Trump was referring to a conversation he had with the fin pres so your point is?

"I was with the President of Finland, and he said: 'We're a forest nation' and they spent a lot of time on raking and cleaning and doing things, and they don't have any problem."

I don't know what Finland does and, for that matter what California does. However, if you leave fuel on the forest floor, it will eventually burn. The more the fuel, the bigger the fire.

Controlled burns work. You pick a relatively small area of maybe a section of 640 acres. You create a fire break with a dozer in conjunction with existing fire breaks such as roads and rivers. Then you start carefully controlled small fires. It is labor intensive and creates a lot of smoke, but it is better than what just occurred in California.

And our President took that to mean raking was a solution for forest fires.

Think about that. Not that Finland is in an entirely different climate. No, he thought Finland raked up the forest and that was the solution.

The significance of the stupidity of this statement seems to be lost on his followers. For some odd inexplicable reason. :)

Yet, the various governments in the region are full of recommendations and studies regarding forest fire prevention and the removal of flammable materials via clearing fire breaks, etc..

    https://finland.fi/business-innovation/forests-support-innovative-bioeconomy/

    https://www.waldwissen.net/waldwirtschaft/schaden/brand/fva_waldbrand_wb4/wb4_summary_prevention.pdf

A protective strip is a 20 to 30 metre wide strip of tree covered land from which easily flammable material (twigs, shrubs, dry or deadwood) has been removed. Weak and dry trees are removed and remaining pines are delimbed to a height of 4 metres. A ground fire is prevented from igniting the canopy layer by the small amount of flammable material and a lack of fire bridges. These protective strips are made on one or both sides of streets or railway tracks and the fuel breaks described below.

That is not what he said. He said "I was with the President of Finland, and he said: 'We're a forest nation' and they spent a lot of time on raking and cleaning and doing things, and they don't have any problem."

Only one of the links is really relevant, a fire break was not mentioned by the president. It is cleared of debris, but it is also cleared of everything else. If Trump wants to start investing in building fire breaks I am all ears, but if he thinks raking and cleaning the forests will make an impact than he is smoking something strong.

The best thing people can do is just not make fires outside when there is a fire danger.

Convenient excuse to not have to defend this display of stupidity. The rest of the world is laughing at us, all the time.

And genius, there is one one "r" in forests, but we thank you for your intelligent contribution to this thread albout forest fire policy.

There are well established procedures for doing it.

    Here:
"I was with the President of Finland, and he said: 'We're a forest nation' and they spent a lot of time on raking and cleaning and doing things, and they don't have any problem."

Now you understand what we are talking about.

Trump is like a giant gum ball machine. A random thought enters his head like a gum ball, drops to his tongue, and out it pops. It cannot be stopped because events keep putting quarters in and refreshing the supply.

I think the obsession with taking comments the President makes out of context in order to trigger "the following" is always amusing.

All three links are relevant, as they point to an active Forest Management effort that incorporates an aggressive forest fire prevention policy that appears to be lacking in the US approach to the same challenge.

"Niinisto said their conversation focused on the California wildfires and the surveillance system Finland uses to monitor forests for fires. He remembered telling Trump “We take care of our forests,” but couldn’t recall raking coming up."

Love it, Trump has a conversation about policy and repeats tactics that were never mentioned. What a help our president is, so glad we have him.

"Raking and cleaning and doing things". As a timberland owner myself I can tell you I do indeed rake albeit with a pitchfork. When I burn slash piles which I have been doing all day everyday the past few weeks I rake the surrounding area with a pitchfork and throw that debri into my fire. The slash itself comes from my cleanup of anything dead and dying to remove ladder fuels and thinning of smaller trees to achieve a six foot average spacing to promote growth and overall forest health.

You left out part of the sentence. Cleaning and other things covers a lot of territory.
