Good question. It could only be done in urban interface areas and would have to be financed by selective logging jobs where the profits the government made were all put back into forest cleanup.

In finland 70% is private land which is often better managed

 

California needs to decide how much of their resources they are willing to spend to avoid a repeat of what happened this year. As long as they let the environmentalists dictate the rules, they will face this again a few years down the road.

 

In Western States 47% is government owned and managed.

 

Even worse is over the last 30 years California has in large part stopped managing it's lands at all as it gave into tree hugger demands. Catastrophic fires like this are the result of that policy.

 

Does the far left california state government have broad authority of private land management also?
