"'Mr Assad will pay a heavy price,' warns Washington"

There has never been any proof the regime perpetrated the first 'chemical attack'.

"White House officials did not respond to requests for comment on potential US plans or the intelligence that prompted the statement about Syria's preparations for an attack."

"Although the intelligence was not considered conclusive"

    Note 'not conclusive'?

"US and allied intelligence officers had for some time identified several sites where they suspected the Assad government may have been hiding newly made chemical weapons from inspectors, said one US official familiar with the intelligence."

"The White House warning, the official said, was based on new reports of what was described as abnormal activity that might be associated with preparations for a chemical attack."

Or might not be? All speculation and dissembling as usual?

And how does Washington 'know' all this? Why, because the 'rebels' aka jihadists said so ffs!! :wall:

Elephant in the room: whatever Trump decides to do, how can he do it without killing civilians, which is what Washington is saying Assad wants to do (but Washington doesn't say why he wants to.)

I confidently predict that the Syrian jihadists will soon be giving the US military the run-around the same as the Talibs did in Afghanistan. And still are!

    WW3 anyone??

Just waiting for the false flag to justify the next bombing of Assad's forces.......... And notice the timing - Mosul is finally close to being taken back, so Daesh do need a confidence building helping hand and a rebalancing of forces on all sides to keep the turmoil going

As I said some time ago Trump has no control whatsoever over the US foreign policies. Neoconservatives run the show. As those guys are mostly psychopaths and sociopaths, nothing can be discounted. All those crazy oldies have a dream to see the Iranian regime overthrown before they die. Most of them are in their 80's. Their last chance. Grave consequences don't matter. Who cares about potential collateral damage of few hundred million people.

Incidentally, anyone whining about civilian casualties in Syria should be spit into the face. Have they seen what's been going on in Yemen recently? Have they seen how many civilians perished in Mosul and surrounding areas? Slaughter of civilians.

The sheer hypocrisy of it is absolutely breathtaking. And the US agenda is there for all to see.

The hypocrisy US difference is as usual that Syria and Assad are backed by Russians = evil in general for the US... and Saudi Arabia action in Yemen is done by a close friend and ally of the USA and so we give a crap on what there happens!

An excellent example of the lack of credibility of the US ... also because this hypocrisy is then presented as completely OK! And then some wonder about the hatred against the US in many parts of the world ...

U.S. Has Seen Chemical Weapons Activity in Syria, Pentagon Says
JUNE 27, 2017 | WASHINGTON — President Trump has drawn a new red line for President Bashar al-Assad of Syria, with American officials describing preparations at a Syrian air base for a chemical weapons assault as they sought Tuesday to bolster Mr. Trump’s threat to deter an attack.

Chemical Attack Warning Comes After Russia Laid Down Its Own Red Lines on Syria
June 27, 2017 – A White House warning late on Monday night about “potential preparations” by the Assad regime for a chemical weapons attack comes at a particularly tense time in Syria, where President Bashar al-Assad’s Russia ally a week ago effectively warned that it could shoot down U.S. aircraft there.

We dont know what we dont know, question is if there will be a another chim attack will you blame the US on false flag or is it possible the the butcher and his barbarian dogs are not as sophisticated as you hold them and simply do what they want knowing no one will them , with all the propagamda around - Assad can personally shoot a child on live TV and claim it was staged, with all polar politics hatred ppl will decide even without watching it.

Israel always had excellent intel on its "neighbors", all of us that served in the army know how deep it goes even without actually seeing the cameras or talking to the spies, we all have friends serving in the intel core, evidance that the Russians seek many times means giving away the source because pictures are not enough, you can trust your country agencies proffesionalism or you can trust your enemies its your choice, but you dont know better.

If there will be another chim attack will you blame the US for it ? do you trust Assad and the Russians more than your own country because you so badly want to avoid war or do you actually have some evidance that Assad could not possibly chim attack his enemies ? my point is we have no way to know just a question of who you trust, your country and allies or your enemies ?

I agree. I personally believe the original chemical attack was made by insurgent/jihadists who had acquired the chemical from an outside force. In other words I do not believe Assad did it because I can see no reason why he would want to. And to answer your question - I'm afraid to say that I believe Russia and Assad more than I believe my own, or any other western politicians. And believe me when I say that the last thing I want is war. I hope this answers your questions.

I respect your opinion, we disagreed on Assad before so no point going into it again, I dont want a war either and that's why I do support some aggresive approach, I think Trump minor attack last time was in place and would be again should Assad (disputed) attack his ppl again - or perhaps even secure an area for the rebels and eventually ship the refugees back there - I guess that's the worse the allies can do considering they dont want to assasinate him (which might mean war and a massacre on Damascus).

You realize ofc that the Russians too have secrets, secret agenda's and misinformation efforts for propaganda reasons - not just the west, my standart still lies with the west with all its hypocracy and mistakes because the other side is simply autocratic and nothing out of it can be trusted, I prefer the baffon candidates of the US presidency and that shamful campiegn over one leader that rides bears and makes no mistakes by definition.

Why would Assad use chemical weapons when he could use conventional weapons that he already has which can give much more destruction and deaths?

Let's see - one chemical attack gave rise to 50ish deaths + no destruction+international condemnation. One missile attack (ref US missile in Mosul) gave rise to 100ish deaths + major destruction + no condemnation on legality

Why develope the greatest arsenal of Chem weapons in the first place if he himslef didnt think they are useful ? bombming rubbles are not as effective as poision sipping true cracks and down to bunkers unless he has bunker busting bombs - which he doesnt, he can poision an area and allow his troops in without casulties, i think its effective.
If he had US kind of ammunition and fire power I doubt he would use Chem weapons, I relate again to the fact Syria had the largest arsenal of such weapons in the ME and perhaps in the world so he uses what he got, the barrel bombs have no such effect. and he shits on "condeminations"......he is loooong passed caring for such things, as long as he got Russia on his side it's really the last of his concerns.

Do you have any evidence that Assad has the largest chemical supply in the middle east let alone the world? US evidence does not count. The chemical attack by someone was not on bunkers but on residential housing where conventional bombs that he or his allies do have would have caused more deaths and destruction.

No, its not a common or public knowledge just assesments on intel agencies you dont trust, but the French also have a report on it mentioning about 1000 tonns of chem weapons, Russia said they would oversee its destructions so I think we can all agree Assad did have a big arsenal at least - and so its effectivness is obvious to him.
That statement does not keep the strict criticism you hold here, can you prove there were no rubbles and bunkers in the areas bombed already ?

In other words Gilos, you have zero evidence to back up nonsensical claims. Neither British nor French evidence counts as we also have been working actively on overthrowing Assad and participated in propaganda war against his country and the government. We created a biggest joke in a modern history of information, one man sitting in a bed-sit somewhere in Coventry calling himself Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. The only side who benefits from the war in Syria is Israel. Zionist-Wahhabi alliance backed up by the U.S neocons. What a monster!

Ah, I have maintained this deep state neocon control over foreign policy since trump flip flopped on assad, after the last false flag gas attack. This neocon foreign policy seems to be in stone and no president is powerful enough to change it. That foreign policy is directly from the New American Century and what some pro war people here must ignore, so they can blame the victims, and in this case it is assad they blame.

So, use your brain. Assad does not want the US to destroy his forces. He knows if gas is used this will justify the US breaking international law and coming into Syria to take his forces and him out. So what does assad do? He launches the last gas attack? So, now the US, the same kind of fake intel that allowed us to take down Iraq is being used again, as they maintain assad is planning another attack. There is transparency here of what our intel is doing but of course it does take a logical, rational brain to see it is self evident. Another lie, another false flag. So, assad knows what is at stake, and he uses gas again? And of course the US will not allow the attack to be investigated before they pull the trigger in response.

This is a means test which determines how many people here are dumber than a bag of hammers, and should recuse themselves from ever voting again. For they are mental weaklings, hardly of higher intellect than the local village idiots in your town.

Trust my country, the US? We have far too many issues of trust given the lies we have since over time. Who in their right mind would trust the US after we have been lied to, time and time again? Trust is earned, not given once the gov't lies start and they get caught. Our intel lies to congress for gods sake. And nothing happens. And you trust this gov't? How in the hell can anyone trust it given what we know about the lies and deceit? You would have to be blind with your brain in the ignore mode to trust this gov't. Unless you were born yesterday.

No I didnt just say that, I said since none of us know for a fact what goes on there - is there any reason to trust the enemy side more than your own intel agencies, you say you dont because they lied so much in the past - I think you exaggerate, I think they made an equal share of mistakes to what they knew and lied about and they admit to that, and that's much more reliable to what comes out from the other side of world dictatorships, 6 years of civil war in Syria and so far when you look at the results alone its all as meets the eye, Russian intersts, Turkish intrests, Assad intersts, Lebanon, Israeli, American and all the rest do exactly as would be expected from them including the man that has the stockpile, has the reason and ability to use it and the victims to be rebels, I think the belief in some Jihadi Genie that keeps poping up with Chem weapons to kill Assad rivals every now and then in order to frame him - is the wounderous story here, this magical Genie pops out, uses this special weapon against Assad enemies and disappears, maybe.......but much more likely that the soldiers that have such weapons and were trained to use them actually did.

Edit: and a few words on American deterance that you would think hold Assad from using them, the mess in Lybia and Iraq made clear there is no deterance - let alone with Russia on the other side, was proven by Obama "red line".
