OMG! I didn't even know eating bugs was a thing before people on this forum pointed it out. But then I decided to google it and it turns out it really is. And then for some reason, I decided to search this topic in the current news and OMG not a single article critical of this idea. What is even going on? Am I the only one crazy or are we doomed as a society? Should we call aliens to save us from ourselves? https://www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pnas.2217537119 This article is just one example out of many.
I guess you are crazy, if you think that giving consideration to this highly reasonable source of food-- since there is far more insect biomass, already on the planet, than any other type of animal life, and whereas we often go to lengths, with poisons, to try to suppress that wealth of organisms-- suggests that we need saving, from ourselves. What if the aliens, were insectoid?
It is actually a delicacy in certain SE Asian countries and in certain South American and African countries as well. Some bugs are very high in protein and may sustain you in certain situations.
It's pretty efficient as well. Plus, most of our food has a certain allowance of bug parts in it anyway. I've tried crickets and mealworms. Honestly, with the seasoning, they didn't taste much different from BBQ potato chips. Oh, and I've had honey ants.
It's not a joke there's people that think this is the way of the future. Didn't understand there's lots of people that have allergies and intolerances there's a reason we don't eat bugs. Some kooky granola munching hippie thought that this would be some kind of way to make things more green but farming crickets is not going to be any more green than farming cows.
insect endocrine systems are quite different from mammals. maybe the hormones they will use to grow fat and tasty caterpillars won't turn our boys into girl?
Or you visit a country and they serve you insects as their meal? In certain countries, to refuse would be considered extremely rude and possibly dangerous.
Yeah I don't think the beef that fed civilization for 10,000 years is harming people. Why would have people in The agrarian days long ago go through the process of cultivating cattle and sheep if eating insects was perfectly healthy and sustainable? It wasn't 10,000 years ago it won't be now on
If I ever go to Cambodia or Thailand then yeah I don't live there so why would I need that when I have beef chicken pork fish and lamb? The only reason they eat that is because they can't get what I eat for the same price.
Americans aren’t there, but a seriously growing number of countries are heading in this direction. I’ve not yet tried, but I’m willing to experiment with the various flours. The chances I’ll eat legs and shells is nil, but there may be a place in stews and such. It’s cheap, easy protein. The third world may appreciate the access to energy. This, along with learning to eat the entire animal, would go a long way. some of our resources are not renewable. Many are, but we really need to start considering that the planet continues to increase in human population while not increasing in natural resources. We will run out. How long would we like humans to flourish? If this seems radical to you, okay. Thanks.
And since there is so much that is safe, and edible, no one but an idiot would opt for the bugs that aren't. We couldn't eat all of the planet's insects, even if we made it our sole source of food. So what point, do you think you are making? Do you ever eat mushrooms? Yet many mushrooms are unpalatable and even deadly-- oh my, how do you deal with that? By only eating the good varieties? Our close relatives, chimpanzees, love eating termites. Presumably, their sense of taste is not completely unlike our own, provided you like bananas and mangos.
the beef that fed civilization for 10,000 yeats is NOT for sale at the winn dixie. americans eat cattle that is jacked up on hormones and antibiotics to get them to grow faster.
This is largely going unnoticed. The kids, grandkids and great grandkids of my father in law are all taller than several previous generations. My own stepson had pubic hair at 9, and was running batches regularly at that age. Milk, meat and all that crap is making us larger and older too soon.
