What people tend to forget, there is a program out there already that can pay for most, if not all of college for you... It's called the GI bill. You want "free" college, then you need to serve our country.

Remember when this student loan plan was first being passed, we were promised it would pay for itself?

I think Conservatives pointed out everything that could go wrong, and now exactly that has come to pass.

Administrators, this is common knowledge. Colleges now have offices of "diversity and inclusion", "equity and civil rights compliance", etc.... That kind of overhead to sniff out and eradicate white male privilege on campus does not come cheap.... indeed many of these bureaucrats make significantly more than tenured professors and have the absolute power to fock with their curriculum.

Our local university builds a new complex every year.
New football field, new baseball field, new administration building, new arts center, new dorms — and then whine constantly they have no money.

Why say that - it simple supply and demand. Our industries needs educated workers. And while it's fun to pretend that only those who can afford to go to college, should go to college - that would leave an incredible under-supply of educated workers. We have shortages as it is. Trade schools leave many high paying fields out of the loop.

You probably wouldn't want to be operated on by a guy who went to welding school or by a marginal student who is graduated just because his parents can afford med school. So by cutting out only those who can afford Med. school, we cut out a tremendous resource of intelligent and gifted students who have the bad form to be born to poor parents.

In your perfect world, only the rich would be smart and gifted - but in the real world, we need to find some way to get the gifted into higher education or we're going to end up with a country that has mediocre rich graduates who don't need to work in the first place.

Why this idea that "everyone should go to college"? A college degree was valued far, far more when it was something of a rarity. As when it was a big deal if one person in a family got a degree.

My daughter is in a one year program to be a surgical technician. Already she has helped in spinal fusion operations where she held the spine of the patient and later inserted screws into the spine. She has also held a human heart during bypass operations, assisted hands on with various orthopedic operations (hip and knee replacements) and helped deliver two babies via caesarean

All that for someone who graduated high school only 10 months ago.

The flight deck crew handling 100 million dollar jets on an aircraft carrier deck (one of most dangerous jobs in the world) routinely averages 19 years old.

Age, maturity, and years of experience are in no way necessary for people to do highly dangerous and complex jobs in the real world.

Because if you want the US to remain a first world country, then you have to a highly trained and educated working class. And we have a shortage of said workers even now.

Get the Federal gov't out of giving loans for school. And you will no longer have this problem.

They go to college then pay the damned debt, college is elective we provide free for the most part K through 12th Grade Education which is enough if its not leading to jobs then change the curriculum to allow for employability training. Have more apprenticeships and on the job training and vocational schools but don't forgive people for being stupid to run up debts without thinking. People spend more time buying a car then spending money on their education which is often far more expensive.

I'm not sure if it's the U of Wisconsin or Michigan, but 52% of their tuition fees goes toward retiree benefits. That's crazy.

I'm not wealthy and he pandered to me. He gave more back to me while the left want to take it away. Not smart.

If they would get rid of the useless degrees and useless classes and useless "professors", the cost wouldn't be so high.

She is a complete idiot. Questioning people like Jamie Dimon “JPMorganChase CEO” on student loans. They have not done student loans since 2010, when the federal govt took over student loans.

    Shouldn’t she have known that?

She is too worried about going after Trump supporters in Restaurants & Gasiline stations.

Your comment is a classic example of the typical false dichotomy that drives our national politics and (your comment) is designed to appeal to the low information types we often see posting here on both sides. Can you grasp that many of us don't want a welfare state AND we don't want useless Trillion dollar invasions?

As far we have seen Trump is against these invasions. Do you have evidence that indicates otherwise? Wasn't it Trump who talked about scaling back our NATO commitment?

Bragging rights, even if it means illegally dropping $500,000 to get your spoiled daughters in. Then when threatened with jail time, cry and scream about the effect THAT would have on your daughters.

So Pocohantas wants to forget billions and billions of student debt.

So the tax payers end up footing the bill for their education.

Now here is a question for Dizzy Lizzy.

    What about future student loans?
If the govt is going to foot the bill for everyone going to college going forward, do they have any plans to limit the amount colleges can charge?

Tell Harvard instead of charging $67,000 yearly tuition & room and board they can only charge $5,000.

If that was too happen Harvard would not be able to pay people like Elisabeth Warren $326,000 to teach one class.
