"Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country"-John F. Kennedy 1961 Inaugural Address

Lofty words from the last Democratic President I have any respect for, and I would not have been born for another seven years. But these words exemplified what America was all about. Hard work and contributing to the country in a positive way. Now, fast forward 62 years and what do we have today?? Well, we know that alot of people are on the government tit in one form or another, and I believe this is why Chairman Maobama, with his (*)(*)(*)(*)-poor record in his first term, was reelected. Not that I was too crazy about Romney, but he was correct in his 47% statement. People today are expecting the government to provide for not only their needs, but their wants as well. This is not how we should be!

Hey, you can try to deny it all you want, but America has developed an entitlement mentality that needs to be eliminated.

Ask what you can do for your country...like contributing more to address the deficit issue?

Our country has way too much debt and our entitlement programs are trending towards insolvency. Any rational person would consider that a problem.

Putting the words "Liberal" and "rational" together create a contradiction of terms.

your entitlement programmes are nowhere near insolvency thats a right wing lie, they are solvent without being modified at all for the next 50 years minimum. I dont think thats a very big problem. your debt is cause people avoid too much tax and some are taxed too little, nothing to do with entitlements.

The "deficit issue" is not being caused by a lack of revenue, it is being caused by an excessive and unsustainable amount of borrowing and spending. Half the households in the country are receiving a government benefit:

How do you reconcile JFK's words with the growing dependency on government?

Well, the Communists used propaganda like this before they took over Russia and it worked for them.

Just make sure you don't get shot after the Communist take over.

No one is safe under Communism, even Communists.

everyone of them is better off then 99% of the country... meaning they do not need to be rewarded with huge tax cuts and caps on taxes for making so much money at a time when we can not afford it

trust me, the rich can survive on paying the same tax rate as you and I

WRONG! Many americans know that hard work still reaps rewards and are willing to do what is needed, both Conservative AND Liberals. Problem is Companies have no loyalty to their employees, even in professional positions people are simply numbers and subject to layoff whenever it is best for the short term interests of the company. It is why I work as a contractor in most positions, I am in it for the money and they pay it, when we are done I move on, and I and they are both happy, enough that several have brought me back to do more for them. They are in business for one thing, money, and I decided long ago to take their lead, it has paid off. As for taking, many people end up taking it due to no actions of their own, and many that are considered to be part of the 46% are retired meaning that they already did their part, oh and it also includes military familes that need the help to survive while they serve this Nation and keep you and me free to whine about trivia.

I said they are "trending" towards insolvency, but I would still consider them "near" insolvency since SS is running a negative cash flow since 2010 and our projected debt load is clearly unsustainable.

Trustees warn of looming insolvency for Social Security, Medicare
Social Security to See Payout Exceed Pay-In This Year
...liabilities of the federal government—including Social Security, Medicare, and federal employees' future retirement benefits—already exceed $86.8 trillion...

Nothing to do with entitlements? How can you say something so asinine?

You just go on thinking that everyone in the "one percent" is some "rich" tycoon who can just afford more and more taxes. Your bubble will burst eventually.

I think this mentality exists primarily among the wealthy, though.

absolute tripe, educate yourself a bit

this explains why it is physically impossible for social security to ever become insolvent http://www.forbes.com/sites/johntharvey/2011/04/08/why-social-security-cannot-go-bankrupt/

this explains why it is not remotely in any kind of trouble whatsoever http://bobcesca.com/blog-archives/2012/04/social-security-is-not-bankrupt-not-even-close.html

both right wing lies as I told you

from the 2012 social security trustees report

The most important take-away points from the 2012 Trustees Report will be that Social Security has a large and growing surplus; that without any Congressional action, Social Security will continue to pay benefits to America’s eligible working families for decades; and that with modest legislated increases in revenue, it will continue to pay those benefits for the next century and beyond.

Obviously it is not just the poor or the illiterate or the old that are on the government tit, the billionaires and banksters and the corporatists are ass-deep into the Treasury. And the government continues to contribute to their Gulfstream and LearJet and stripper-party funds. And with the tax-cheats (Romney) and outsourcers, a billionaire who contributes to this country in a positive way has to be a fool. And I'm sure their accountants tell them that.
