This is bad. Can't back the police on this one.

So some disgruntled loser gamer called the police and gave a fake address saying a family was taken hostage. That's how this innocent guy got shot. They did catch the dirbag!

The whole thing is tragic. I'm sure the usual PF posters are gonna come in her and trash this post with race bait.

It's weird - if the caller is in another state (Cali calling Kansas), or has a blocked number, shouldn't the police proceed with some caution regarding veracity?

The cops are fully responsible. They simply are unprofessional.

Not saying they had an intent to kill. But you know,
them cops are basically doing unskilled labor.
    That is the job "requirement".

Unless the victim was black or brown, then the alt-right will find the assassination perfectly acceptable.

Yeah, the cops shot a guy for answering a door. We live in a country where you're at constant risk of being killed by authorities for no reason.

I wonder how law is applied in this situation? The "swatter" didn't actually kill anybody directly, but he did get someone killed. The officer can use the fear defense and, if past incidents are a gauge, this will likely be a successful defense and the shooting labeled as justified. Though he will probably get the book thrown at him in the civil trial. For all intents and purposes his life as he once knew it will be over, but at least he'll not be in jail. For the "swatter" prison time could range from 1 year to 25 years based on what I'm seeing with a quick google search. 15yr Paul Horner got sentenced to 25 years for domestic terrorism for an incident that lead to an innocent person getting getting shot by police officers. Based on the serious of this particular case this guy will go to jail for a VERY long time.

"Swatting" is exceedingly dangerous and, if there already aren't, there should be heavy penalties for swatters. Having said this the Wichita police department needs more training and perhaps a better selection process of officers for SWAT teams because this death is unacceptable....period.

Police say when Finch came to the door, he was given several commands to put his hands up. Livingston says Finch lowered his hands toward his waistband multiple times, leading an officer to fear he was reaching for a weapon. That's when that officer fired, Livingston says.

Can't blame the police if the kid didn't follow instructions.

    Are you retarded?

He was in his house, the police didn't have a warrant, and they shot him based on information given by an out of state person.

No, this is completely on that police department.

You don't have to do **** for the police when you're in your own home and there's no warrant.

Reported hostage situation. No time for a warrant. Felony murder by an out of state liar.

Got to use your noggin, that is, if you want to live. You got to do, and you got to do right.

    Are you?

Try to keep up here and tone down your emotional outbursts if you can.

When a bunch of cops have their weapons trained on you and give you an order, you obey. Period end of story. The only retarded person would disobey.

do you think that not putting your hands up should be grounds for an extrajudicial execution?

Do you want to live, or do you want to die? In the moment there is no time for philosophy, no time for a cupcake, no time for a little good news.

If you reach for your waistband multiple times while being told to keep your hands up you bet.

Some people obey and are shot and killed anyway. What then? Was it still justified?

    You make me sick.

Had the police bothered to do a little leg work this man would be alive.

People like you enable this murder.

Stick to the case that's actually in front of us.

Any time an overly emotional person who refuses to use reason or common sense to evaluate a situation makes that statement to me its quite the complement. Thank you.

No. Had he obeyed the instructions he was given he would be alive.

People like you get police killed. You could care less about the dangers the police go through and want to excuse someone who refused to follow the orders they were given by the police.

LOL Please, share with us your fool proof police training methods that protect police and civilians without requiring civilians to obey the police.

    I'd love to see them.
