That's the thing. Why didn't Trump explain that he declassified them to the FBI back in February or June. Why are we only hearing about this standing order now?

Seems like the FBI had no other choice but to get a warrant. Also, we only knew about this warrant because Trump blabbering about it on social media. We didn't hear about the FBI visit in June until last week.

They had other choices, those files weren't going anywhere and they certainly weren't going to be given to an enemy of the US. And since they weren't on a computer server they weren't going to be hacked. And if Trump says he didn't believe the files were classified then this is over. It's up to the AG to prove he knew they were classified and only a confession could do that.

It's not that Trump would call Putin and say, "I have something special for you my friend......" In this hypothetical, Trump in his thinking is the ace of spades for any type of negotiations he wants to have.

The more likely scenario would be that Putin finds out that Trump does have documents with top secret sensitive information and information they do not currently possess through their own espionage acts. WE also know Trump really, really, really wants to build a casino and hotel in Moscow, but so far Putin and his allies have rebuffed him. So, this becomes part of the negotiation tactics. Putin will say, "I will agree to allow a hotel to be built in Moscow as long as you give me those top secret documents. Trump will more than likely agree to that exchange. You see, Trump is getting what he wants, a hotel and casino, and it willing to do anything and everything, short of him giving all or most of his money, to get that done.

If our news media prior to the raid had information about documents including some classified documents, even though they didn't know to what degree, you can bet Putin spy network new a lot more than the average American or even law enforcement. So, yeah, it is a likely scenario that is the reason he held onto them.

Stating he just "forgot" is not a likely argument given the fact he has called this a hoax, a political nut job, they planted it, they were all declassified, etc. He knew, maybe not the exact contents, but he knew about them. And he knew enough to say

The simpliest explanation is that he just wanted to and did not give a damn about policy or procedure at that time, or any time.

They used the subpoena and that did not work. Hence why the search warrant.

So you are now arguing without evidence that they have top secret documents in their home or other unsecured location? Hogwash.

For Barack Obama, the NARA already addressed this argument, thoroughly. As for Joe Biden, even he followed the various laws for this type of stuff.

What a bizarre statement. The president doesn't steal his own documents there his he's the executive of all of the classified information is under the purview of the executive branch.

We don't go after Barack Obama about this because he can't get reelected.

Why else bring up Barack Obama and the argument "well he took documents too?" that was your argument, right?

You guys are grasping anything and everything to see what sticks. So far, all the arguments you have come up with does not hold water to the facts.

    Who cares it's declassified.

The president has unilateral authority to declassify anything under the executive branch. He is the premier authority over it.

Since almost all classified documents are under the authority of the executive meaning it is through the president's authority things are classified in the first place you don't get to keep secrets from our president that's espionage.

He just doesn't get to declassify it if it's classified under say the patent office.

100% of everything anywhere the CIA has ever done in its entire existence the FBI the CIA the department of defense the ATF everything they've ever done in their history the president can declassify tomorrow on a whim because they are all under his authority the only reason they get to classify anything is because he lets them.

it's not an argument. It's to point out that this is procedure within the scope of everybody that holds that office that's why Barack Obama has documents and that's why you Biden has some because it falls under the scope of the VP office too and since he's president now yes he can declassify documents and stick him in his archive all he wants.

He's the executive that means he holds authority over the entire executive branch which includes about 90% of classified information. Since the FBI the CIA the department of defense all are under the executive branch.

It is really only through the authority granted to you by the president that you're allowed to classify things within the executive branch.
This is ironic coming from the people who followed the Russia hoax then the Ukraine hoax then the January 6th hoax and when all of those failed and you got nothing out of it you come up with another hoax.

And this time we got him is the mantra for all of it now you don't he has to have committed a crime for you to get him on something.

An executive using his power is not a crime.

Do you have proof it was declassified? Trump saying it is after his presidency ended doesn't matter.

They had been to his residence in January and June. Why is it taking so long to get back government property? If it had been you or me, you think he government would wait 8 months to get their documents back?

Well that's going to be a difficult thing to prove a president can declassify anything he wants any win he has unilateral ability to do that so if he says understand if it gets to that point which it won't I'd be classified as well as president you're going to have a hard time proving he didn't

Sure. Trump said he had a standing order than declassified anything that left the WH. However, his lawyer signed a statement saying all classified material had been returned. How can you return classified material when all of it is declassified per the standing order?

"Ace of Spades" "Negotiation Tactic" "Hotel Casino" "Putin" "Extortion"

This is way too implausible for words .. none of which makes any sense .. requiring dumb and dumber on a level beyond "dumb and dumber" and just don't think these folks are that stupid .. and they would both have to be that stupid..

Trump has always wanted a casino and hotel in Moscow, not to mention in Macau, PRC. That fact is incontrovertible. Trump thinks that everything belongs to him and he controls all the money, no matter what the law says. Trump does not think that way.

It is a possible explanation why he kept the records. And Putin does have an extensive spy network. As I said, if the news media has wind of this as a rumor prior to the raid, I can guarantee you that Putin's clandestine operations would try to extort the situation because that is what Russia's clandestine operations do. This is not something that "he just forgot" by someone who claims/brags to be a "stable genius." And this is plausible if Putin initiates this, not Trump.

I brought Vlad up as a Joke .. didn't thing folks would be so far gone .. to actually swallow .. well .. sans "those folks" which is generally a field your not found.
Yeah .. that would be you affirming that such a "wild assertion" was plausible .. "Secret Vlad Plot"

Then - back to first post -- Yeah - that would be you denying to have affirmed .. "Secret Vlad Plow" or even mentioned Vlad

Did you forget something ? don who u playing silly game wit...

Now - did you have anything coherent you wished to contribute .. bout classified being more than forgetting some files .. had some folks giving all kinds of made up tales .. which made no sense at all ..

What ever it is .. is some small thing .. not something to make federal issue over. Trump is not in power .. but he used to be .. and had access to the most secret of things ... and still remaines cleared for all .. as he has seen all.

So any suggestion of Trump somehow breaching stuff he should not know about .. is purile nonsense .. on so many levels.

running around after Stormy Daniels "there must be some there there" .. fully ignorant of the massive violation ... related to abuse of State Power going on .. and relative weight of consequence .. "Ohhh .. Trump has retained a few classified files .. which at any point he could have declassified .. but were never classified to him .. having clearance .. ya know .." maybe we should go pick those up .. or give Donald a call and have him Fed-Ex them over in his personal Limo.

This doesn't pass the stupid test.

The national archives are under the control of the executive branch. So if it belongs to the archive it belongs to the office if the executive and he can declassify it any time he wants. He is the ultimate authority over the archive

    44 U.S.C ch 21 (ss) 2102. Establishment.
There shall be an independent establishment in the executive branch of the Government to be known as the National Archives and Records Administration.

How can classified material be in mar a Lago if it was returned.

If he possessed it while he was president, he was allowed to. He is the chief executive.
