He was merely stating to someone else what he actually saw as the event went down and wasn't trying to impress anyone, make points, or grab any glory. That's just stupid, and shows no understanding of real-life situations that police officers can find themselves in, like trying to cuff a suspect who appears to be cooperating and the suspect suddenly goes for the cop's gun. There isn't always time to get in position to use "non-lethal" force. And a cop doesn't have to take a beating from an "unarmed" suspect either. Your blanket statement is ridiculous. Just because a perp or suspect is technically unarmed doesn't always mean that lethal force wasn't justified.

If these same 'protestors' were to put the same energy they put into rioting, harassment, etc, into cleaning their neighborhoods of drug, thugs and drive by's, their world MAY be a little better place to live in.

It's a -nonstarter- and a total whitewash of reality. Most people see this - man assaults officer - man is unarmed - officer shoots man.

That's all there is to it. This officer could have easily tried a taser. By his own account, he didn't even bother. He just reached for his gun.

If the police officer happens to be a woman standing only -- say -- five feet-five inches and weighing in at 135 pounds then yes, she should put a few rounds through a physically aggressive male of 6'-2" and 230 pounds if he's just finished trying to take her weapon from her -- punching her in the process -- and then after having gotten out of the vehicle compartment and put some distance between them turns around and begins charging her when she already has her side arm in her hand.

At that point in time she'd be insane to reholster her side arm and unsnap the catch on her taser (assuming that she's carrying one) and TRY to bring it around in time while a lumbering giant (in physical comparative terms) was charging toward her with the evident intention of causing her additional physical harm. One could then only hope that she wouldn't miss as she began squeezing off rounds.
