I don't think Columbus killed a single Indian. Even if he did, there are other European colonists and expansionist Americans who killed significantly more. Should European colonization of North America never happened? Should American expansion westward never have happened?

I know this will go unanswered, but are any of this board's liberals going to separate themselves from the privileges and opportunities they've had as a direct of European colonization?

I'll answer: No. But I will work to ensure the disenfranchised communities of this country will be able to access the same privileges and opportunities.

This entire threads about history from 500 years ago so if you're not talking about that you're off subject.

I'm in no control of whether or not you picture me in panties, but please keep that to yourself.

Between 1500 and 2000 there probably were quite a few people who resulted in quite a few more deaths than what Columbus and his crew could inflict.
While their cruelties are known, one must remember that due to lack of technology the amount of people they affected is limited - there were no machine guns or big bombs at the time. Today’s average military commander probably resulted in more deaths than Columbus.
Cesar conquered huge parts of Europe and subjugated barbarians, who were native Europeans of Germanic, Slavic, and Frankish tribes, to Roman rule.
I’m not seeing Northern, Western, and Eastern Europeans toppling statues of Cesar. Probably because everyone looks more into his impact on the worlds history instead of his treatment of tribes that he conquered. After all, he lived 2,000 years ago.
If the woke crowd is so concerned with Columbus - why stop with him? Why 500 years? Why not 5,000? Let’s go and trash pyramids in Egypt - those guys had slavery! How about trashing ancient Roman ruins? Why are Mayan pyramids allowed to stand? People who built them sacrificed children and were ripping off hearts from ancestors of today’s minorities.

So you pay lip service to the issue while keeping all the benefits, is that it?

Poor ole Joe may not be able to remember what he thinks anymore. He authored the Crime Bill that put many Blacks in prison for minor offenses.

And this is at the very root of the reasoning: All European men--and, of course, European culture--is bad. Very bad. It must be replaced by something resembling an anarchic state...

As someone said just a few days ago, on Fox News (tongue in cheek): "What did Lincoln ever do for the black people, anyway?"

That bill also brought forth the Federal Assault Weapons Ban.

    Prepare accordingly...

Columbus didn’t prove earth was round. It’s actually a myth that people were not aware of it.
What Columbus proved is that it is possible to make it to another continent on the ships of their time and not run out of food and water in the middle of the ocean.
A side note - while scholars of that time had a very good idea of the size of our planet, Columbus made a mathematical error and thought that the distance and direction he traveled would get him all the way to India. In a way, his discovery was caused by an error.

The world was known to be a sphere over 1,500 years before ol' Chris was even born. He underestimated it's size because he was an inexperienced navigator and made some arrogantly Italian-centric assumptions when reading his charts and underestimated the distance to his desired destination by a factor of three...

You really shouldn't get your history from the guy who wrote “Rip Van Winkle” and “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.”
