Reading through this thread I find it amazing how many of the rightists, the ones that whine and cry the loudest about 'free stuff' are in fact receiving the 'free stuff' they whine some much about!

I have seen turkeys for less than 50 cents a pound around Thanksgiving! $2 or less for chicken is also pretty common.

Yes: when you "look" for fraud wearing a blindfold, you are not likely to find it! Suzanne Bump is as corrupt as they come.

More aid goes to Israel than in the bellies of food stamp recipients, the federal budget is not in deficit because of this program.

But to go after the social security and medicare deficits in the budget, you have to go to the lowest of the low and target food stamp fraud because that is the only way to garner support for reduction's in the bigger welfare programs.

47 percent of the country are net recipients, but not all of those 47 percent are on food stamps. concerning private charities, that puts people at higher risk since its harder to end a government food program instituted in law than a private charity that depends on the ever changing "good will" of people that week to donate to a food pantry.

Social Security and Medicare are funded with FICA/Payroll taxes that have provided more revenue than spending. Social Security and Medicare have never generated one dime of deficit spending or national debt. Currently they are over-funded by about two trillion from what I understand.

At the same time the DOD budget is fundamentally paid for with borrowing where slightly more than half of all spending requires borrowing by the Federal Government. The DOD budget is funded by general taxation and not a dedicated tax source like Social Security and Medicare and all general expendatures require that 50 cents of every dollar is from borrowing. The government doesn't like to point that out so they role in Social Security/Medicare into the mix because historically those two programs have a surplus based upon FICA/Payroll taxes.

Cutting spending where no borrowing has occurred while ignoring spending where roughly 1/2 of based upon borrowing is a dishonest ploy by Republicans. If we're going to reduce deficits then we need to cut spending where borrowing is required and the elephant in the living room is defense spending. We spend more than we have and more than we need for the US military.
