Founding Fathers under attack: Students demand Thomas Jefferson statue removal

Students at Hofstra University protested a statue of Thomas Jefferson on Friday at the second annual event, titled “Jefferson Has Gotta Go!”

The statue has been the center of controversy on the campus and has been defaced with “DECOLONIZE” and “Black Lives Matter” signs and stickers. According to a media advisory sent by the Jefferson Has Gotta Go (JGG) campaign, the protest was held at Hofstra Breslin Hall. Organizers included “students of Hofstra University, staff from Planned Parenthood of Nassau County, and supporters of Hempstead community.”

Just chuckling to myself thinking about all the PF posters who swore LW extremism would never come to stunts like this. If you're involved in assaults on the founders, the constitutional provisions that allow your "freedom of (hate) speech" ... you don't deserve them.

 

It is only a matter of time before they want to dismantle our entire history! The founding fathers, the Constitution, and the Republic! We are closing in on that rapidly!!

Jefferson was truly blameless and an advocate of freedom and human rights.

 

They should put security cameras to monitor the statue, and then throw the book at every scumbag who defaced it.

 

Not sure why there would be a statue of TJ at a NY university, but OK. I think the determination of WHY this statue is at this university is important. What is it memorializing?? TJ as a slave holder or TJ as the author of the Declaration of Independence?

I completely disagree with the need to remove this statue just to expose the culture of "bias and discrimination", but I also have no problem if the MAJORITY of students in 2019 VOTE to remove it... It's their university and they can decorate it as they see fit.

In the grand scheme of history, 2019's college kids and protesters are just a blip on the radar. I do not think they should have the power to influence such things simply because snowflakish hysteria is the trend of the day.

That is the problem with removing these thing ---- historical and long-standing statues and art works ---- because one group throws a hissy fit today. Why should a blip on the radar get to influence history like this?

Jefferson was not a perfect man and did not live a flawless life.

That makes him no different than anyone else.

His ideas and philosophy have made for a very good country however.
