...Marco Werman: How did you know Qasem Soleimani? Gen. David Petraeus: Well, he was our most significant Iranian adversary during my four years in Iraq, [and] certainly when I was the Central Command commander, and very much so when I was the director of the CIA. He is unquestionably the most significant and important — or was the most significant and important — Iranian figure in the region, the most important architect of the effort by Iran to solidify control of the Shia crescent, and the operational commander of the various initiatives that were part of that effort.

...Do you have confidence in this administration to kind of navigate all those calculations?
Well, I think that this particular episode has been fairly impressively handled. There's been restraint in some of the communications methods from the White House. The Department of Defense put out, I think, a solid statement. It has taken significant actions, again, to shore up our defenses and our offensive capabilities. The question now, I think, is what is the diplomatic initiative that follows this? What will the State Department and the Secretary of State do now to try to get back to the table and reduce or end the battlefield consequences?

Here we see retired top general Petraeus, who is not exactly a Trump fan-establishing just how big of a win this military strike was.

Its a victory not just for a sovereign Iraq, but also in setting back the corrupt efforts of Iran in the region.

Soleimani killed thousands of westerners, and likely millions of muslims. He had to go.

I just don't like the blind optimism that's coming from the former gen, and to an extent Pompeo/Trump. Because this is what it sounds like:

Iran: "You killed my best dude"
    America: "Yeah"
Iran: "And now you want me to end hostilities"
    America: "Yeah"
    Iran: "Not happening."

Seriously, the Ayotallah's will not stop their presence in the region or attacks on America. This is a war, and we can't get out of it now.
Our screeching for the end of hostilities shows the Iranians that continuing hostilities is preferable to them.

    Stop vomiting.

    They understand.

We should release the captured Iranians.

Then say we implanted computer chips in them.

I'm just being realistic. I would be shocked if the Iranians go "Okay, you win, we'll get out of Iraq and be a good little country now."

Nah, doctor some video of them performing homosexual acts and send them back, they'll be swinging from a crane within 15 minutes of arriving home.

Being nice to Iran has not worked. They are bad players on the world stage. Let's stop playing around and smoke them out.

I'm not arguing to be nice to them. In fact, I think we have no choice but to smoke them out. I'm just saying this idea of "Hopefully now the Iranians learned their lesson!" is worse than Nation-building. We're pretty much committed to this now. And this is something we've got to finish, no matter how unpopular.

I am not interested in teaching lessons. Iran has proven itself to be detrimental to peace. They are no different than Nazi Germany and the Axis of Evil. Iran should be dealt with in the same manner.

It's been a war we can't get out of for decades. Nor should we want to be out of it.

Iran is the bad guy and they have been doing bad things to their neighbors for ages

We have been appeasing them for too long..

"Open war is upon you whether you'd risk it or not"

    Iran is Mordor..

Lol...Maybe with a serious person like Bush or Obama, but trump is only in it for himself so he's just as likely to throw them under the bus yet again if he gets some new brain fart.
For now, it only looks like a half-baked wagging the dog scheme that's sure to come back and bite him in the ass, and as usual, he'll leave others holding the bag when the **** hits the fan.

That could work too, but I'd rather have it fester a bit.

Maybe add in that Israel has implanted sensors in birds and dolphins.

Even if he truly was in it for himself he would need to do the right thing because if he didnt then he wouldnt be able to stroke his ego to his base. Pathetic argument.

Isn't it hysterical that now the liberals love GW Bush being that he's been out of the White House for 12 years? They claimed the world was coming to an end when he was elected, so much so that they tried to cheat him out of office, just like they're trying with Trump now.

I wonder how the US would react if Iran had assassinated General Petraeus with a drone strike in Canada. My guess is, there would be calls for a mushroom cloud.

As usual, though, the Trump fan war hawks, who pretended for a while to be peace doves so they could use it against Hillary, have trouble viewing the world through someone else's eyes. Typical double standard.

Just a reminder that quantum is German, not a U.S. citizen. Germany is quite cozy with Iran so be prepared for an illogical response.
