They're only allowing contributions from Mexico, right?

$16M might be enough to put up a lot of wall - if the USG was not involved.

"(CNN) -- Their livelihood was being threatened, and they were tired of waiting for government help, so business owners and residents on Hawaii's Kauai island pulled together and completed a $4 million repair job to a state park -- for free."

"The state Department of Land and Natural Resources had estimated that the damage would cost $4 million to fix, money the agency doesn't have, according to a news release from department Chairwoman Laura Thielen.

"It would not have been open this summer, and it probably wouldn't be open next summer," said Bruce Pleas, a local surfer who helped organize the volunteers. "They said it would probably take two years. And with the way they are cutting funds, we felt like they'd never get the money to fix it."

Hmm...the estimate length of wall that would be built is roughly 700 miles at the cost of 12 billion (that's a "generous" estimate, because the cost may end up twice that). That is the cost of 17 million per mile. So....even if the money is accepted to build the wall, you'll end up with about a mile. Not exactly...."a lot of wall."

    This slipped through their censors.

"And after only eight days, all of the repairs were done, Pleas said. It was a shockingly quick fix to a problem that may have taken much longer if they waited for state money to funnel in.

"We can wait around for the state or federal government to make this move, or we can go out and do our part," Slack said. "Just like everyone's sitting around waiting for a stimulus check, we were waiting for this but decided we couldn't wait anymore."

    Is that by law?

Reps. Don Beyer (D-Va.) and Rob Wittman (R-Va.) have introduced the Federal Employee Retroactive Pay Fairness Act, which, if passed and signed into law, would give furloughed workers back pay for the duration of the partial shutdown.

Oooppss! Can't see Trump signing that one.

Estimated costs for government projects have little relationship to the costs of real world projects where "other peoples money" is not involved.
Found this description of the project from the locals in 09.

"See site below for more data - they apparently had almost no expenses so the donated money will be applied to maintenance. I suppose there are ways to value volunteered labor materials and equipment, but the cost was zero.

Beyond that even if it had been paid for at market value when compared to the savings of the project completed in 8 days as opposed to 4 years as the state estimated ... incredible.

A road crew with a lot of heavy equipment resurfaced our long driveway in a day for a couple of thousand dollars so lets say 18,000 to 30,000 for 8 days and maybe a few thousand more for bridge rails etc. As opposed to 4 million over 4 years (if ever) for the government to do it”

Without a dedicated budget in place, the money from the general fund goes where they want it to like Obama did.

Wow, at this rate they'll have the money to build it in 700 days, just about the time Trump is voted out of office. Well, they can use the money for more intelligent things.

Every little bit helps. The Government shut down of course. The US Government spends about $7 million dollars a minute. Even if shutting down the Government saves only $1.5 million dollars a minute, a 2 week shut down would yield about $35 Billion in savings. That's enough to build it and maintain it for years to come.

11 million? But trump needs 6 billion. I just do not think the wall will be crowd funded.

Years ago there was legislation to add to border fencing, to expand it, yet it was never funded very well, if any at all. Hell, neither party wants a fence or a wall. Actions speak louder than words.

Nothing. The Government takes enough of my money that they think belongs to them to provide us with a wall. Illegal cost us....

Even if the wall kept out all the able bodies that could climb a 25ft ladder, go thru razor wire and come back down another 25ft ladder without falling. the wall would pay for itself.
