I'm looking for some good ideas for dishes involving raw or rare meat, fish or beef. Such as steak tartare - does anyone have any recommendations?
I read something about pickled fish being good. I don't mean the usual herrings in pickle sort of thing, some fish dishes are "cooked" using natural acids - probably some sort of citric acid - and apparently very good. I did eat something similar once, it was billed as "Tahitian" fish. Okay it's not raw but it isn't cooked with heat from flame. If you're interested there might be some recipes about. Again, I stress, the article made it clear that the pickling process was a preparation of the dish rather than a preservative approach.
If you are a daredevil, I recommend skydiving. Don't eat raw meat unless you are into diarrhea and long-term illness related to parasites.
I love Ciiche, but we make it with Imitation crab meat. It's very tasty.....without the G.I. issues. Crab Cheviche Ingredients • 1 (8 ounce) package imitation crabmeat, flaked • 2 large tomatoes, chopped • 1 red onion, finely chopped • 1/2 bunch cilantro, chopped • 2 limes, juiced • 3 serrano peppers, finely chopped • 1 tablespoon olive oil • salt and pepper to taste Directions 1. Place the shredded imitation crab into a glass or porcelain bowl. Plastic or metal are not recommended. Stir olive oil into the crabmeat until well coated, then stir in the cilantro, onion, tomato and serrano peppers. Squeeze the lime juice over everything, and mix well. Season with plenty of salt and pepper. Refrigerate for about 1 hour before serving.
Prosciutto is an amazing raw meat to eat. When I was in Italy I had some and it was amazing. I put some slices between between some bruschetta and freshly-made mozzarella.
Around here it is popular to eat mett - raw ground pork. It isn't bad, but requires spices to give it flavor.
