GOP senator says she's 'struggling' on whether to back Trump

(CNN)Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska broke with many of her Republican colleagues Thursday, applauding an op-ed by General James Mattis that condemned President Donald Trump's actions this week.

"When I saw General Mattis' comments yesterday I felt like perhaps we are getting to a point where we can be more honest with the concerns that we might hold internally and have the courage of our own convictions to speak up," Murkowksi said on Capitol Hill.

The comments were a stark contrast to many of her other Republican colleagues on Capitol Hill who argued that while Mattis had a right to disagree with Trump, they didn't agree with Mattis' assessment.

    ... https://www.cnn.com/2020/06/04/politics/lisa-murkowski-mattis-trump-reaction/index.html

Will this further splinter the Republican Party? Is Trump dividing Republicans to the point of defeating himself? I think so, and I think he's really been doing this from the beginning and this is just the latest major incident in that process.

To the contrary, I agree with the President of the United States and to show why I agree I must first remind our military and our congress what their obligation was: To serve the federal government, this public service persists no matter who is President of the US, Senator Murkowski

Among that service, is the need to protect our citizens. Not only do we face a global pandemic, but we also face these rioting disturbances, the destruction of public and personal property, owned by both the public wit large and by individual citizens. The deference to these violent individuals constitutes then a betrayal of service, and a betrayal to the federal government.

The US Citizen is looking to the government for a response. The States and the city mayor's have failed, and now the federal government wit large seeks to 'debate' the response, rather than actually serving at a time of need.

This Congress has failed the American Republic, and that is utterly clear.

Lol...I hear a lot of whistling past the graveyard from trump's dwindling base.
Meanwhile, their great orange hope is shedding support at a splendidly alarming rate.

They exist, but they're still mostly cowed into silence, afraid to lose their seats. Very sad.

What were the preceding "major incident"s in your view?

As a counter-point, President Trump enjoys high levels of support from Republicans in opinion polls. Whatever "splinter"ing you imagine you're seeing appears to be limited to some RINO elected officials.

Of course, that is the go-to non-defense, to lob personal attacks and names (such as RINO) at anyone who criticizes Dear Leader.

Remain blind the facts if you like. That's your prerogative, although I find it awfully irresponsible of a sovereign voting American citizen to do so.

I'm not blind to facts. I just don't think Lisa Murkowski does a good job of representing the principles of conservatism / Republican Party (it should be noted that neither does the Alaska Republican Party: the picked Joe Miller in 2010 over her).

I'm not sure why you chose to complain about "personal attacks" in a post in which you yourself engage in the practice. I'll assume it was just an oversight on your part.

I did ask you a specific question which you neglected to answer: What were the preceding "major incident"s in your view?

Senator Lisa Murkowski has shown that she has more 'Balls' than the "Men" in her caucus.

Finally one US Senator is starting to think about her country and maybe just maybe not just about her own career.

Congratulations Senator Murkowski for showing the courage to think for yourself.

I hope that her life is not in jeoprody from her fellow Trump cult members. It is well known the cult members often harm those who do not walk lock step with rest of the cult members.

I'm glad you posted that stuff from Will, not so much because he's right, but because he crafted one of the funniest sentences of the year

Voters must dispatch his congressional enablers, especially the senators who still gambol around his ankles with a canine hunger for petting."

I had to look up the word gambol..."to skip about as in dancing or playing"

Just about the perfect description of most of those losers...

Here's another Senator who might be awakening from the apparent drugging performed on them in 2016

    SNIP
Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley says he is blocking two Trump administration nominees until the White House provides adequate reasons for the termination of two inspectors general.

The Iowa senator, a longtime advocate for the watchdog role of inspectors general, pledged to block Senate consideration of Christopher Miller to be director of the National Counterterrorism Center and Marshall Billingslea to be undersecretary of state for arms control and international security, indefinitely.

Actually need to SEE that happen, old dude....

And I notice he won't be blocking any of the unqualified kook judges either.... 2 no names for 2 lesser roles....

    But still...
