It's a good story, but something sounds fishy. She grabbed testicles and hit them with a hammer and they persisted. Then she had a conversation with them with the shotgun in her hands. The part that I don't buy is that they ran when the gun went "click". The "click" would tell me that either the gun was unloaded or she didn't know how to use it. If they were across the room she may have had time to chamber a round and decided to run, but that sounds unlikely to me.

I suppose the availability of guns kept him from pursuing a career as a medical missionary.

I highly doubt it. Matter of fact I believe just the opposite is true. The lack of availability of weapons for the weak, the elderly, women, handicapped etc. would embolden those that select crime as a career choice. At any rate, what do you think....Guilty or not guilty?

Detroit is crime central now, the city is bankrupt and filled with gang warfare and violence daily. Calling the police would not have help as the average police arrival rate in that city is about 45 to 90 minutes. Somebody pounding on the door at 4:30 in the morning on your doors, windows and walls is concerning and when you know that the police may be an hour away, and you live in a city like Detroit, the home owner reacted to defend themselves and their home. I will let the courts decide whether or not it was justifiable, but from what I have read in the article you have posted, it seems to be justifiable. I am sorry to hear that this woman did lose her life, and that she and the homeowner were put in this situation.

    I say NOT GUILTY

In other places people believe the woman or boy should be allowed to be beat to death before cops can arrive because they believe their government knows best. How absurd!

Hmmm - Judge Jury and Executioner????

Most cops know that the worst thing you can do is get in the middle of a Domestic even IF and it is a big IF the story were true it is doubtful that the woman would do anything other than defend her partner. Thing is there has to be EVIDENCE. The child allegedly said that his father was hitting his mother but was this so?
This is why we have jury trials

Except that was not why Torres was shot, so there doesn't have to be any proof of anything the boy said. Torres got shot for charging the gun owner. If Torres had been shot just because the boy said that Torres was beating his Mom then the neighbor would have shot him the instant he saw him instead of telling him to get on the ground.

Torres charged and got shot for his troubles.

Are you pretending that part didn't happen or did you really not know?

the mere existence of a gun in the possession of a lawful owner is what they whine about. You see, those kind of people demand victims. With more victims comes the wringing of hands and the woeful sobbing of too much criminal activity.
Without victims, government looses control over the rest of us

Sorry - you have a person waving a gun at you and your partner and child are nearby - who is to say he was not trying to defend them?

LOL, that reminds me of those infomercials selling someone's "new" ratcheting screwdriver and to show you how easy it is to operate they have someone demonstrate the difficulty of operating a regular screwdriver and they fumble finger it all the way to the floor. Hilarious, and I'm not buying it.

Riiiight  your desperation is apparent. Enraged people regularly turn from beating their wife to protecting them.

ll I am doing is offering an alternative explanation for the report in the newspaper - which in and of itself is NOT a court case summary. There is usually a perceptible gap between what is in the papers and what is the real situation

    - - - Updated - - -

It is concerning but still no reason to shoot the girl. THE HOMEOWNER WAS NOT AT RISK

Can anyone guess what would have happened to the 19 year old grand daughter if the conceited gun owner had not had an equalizing tool in his arsenal? I say not guilty.

No blazing guns wounding other citizens, no submission to the criminals so they have their way...no waiting on the police who would be there after the fact anyway. I can't wait for the responses to this one.

And if there was a decreased availability of guns would they have been armed in the first place???
