And you know this how? SWAT teams are replacing the MP5 with the AR for close quarters. Police use them in close quarters as well. The first link was from an expert opinion advocating the AR for home defense. Again I repeat, you don't get the stopping power/large capacity of the AR in neither the shotgun nor the handgun. Handguns lack the power and shotguns lack the capacity. - - - Updated - - - And what if there are multiple attackers?
Anyone arguing that an AR is unsuitable for home defense either doesn't know what they're talking about or is trolling. Anyone arguing that an AR is unsuitable for hunting either doesn't know what they're talking about or is trolling. Anyone arguing that an AR is unsuitable for target shooting / competition either doesn't know what they're talking about or is trolling. Best thing to do is treat him accordingly.
I forget what my argument was. But I say this. I never needed gun. Kitchen knife does good. But guns useless for home defense. Burgulars break in when out. Unless dumb burgulars who then nothing to worry about.
If someone is home, they are no longer a burglar. It becomes a home invasion robbery. Once you see their face, they have a decision to make. Do they leave you alive so that you can identify them and testify against them? Its their choice if all you have is a kitchen knife.
If they that stupid or high on drugs to break in when someone at home. Not problem. Knife overkill in that situation.
Hmm you need gun? Don't know fighting skills? Break something they too busy screaming in pain to fight back.
Right, the guy had just shot me, he had a gun, I fired back, 6 shots quickly and ended the fight...... I was also pretty lucky..... What little brains he had, adorned my wall......
I meant martial arts I train with. Ninjutsu. Breaking body parts to stop oppenant. But my instructor bit of psychpath. He get drunk fights in bars. Need gun with him.
I know. Like I said - not everyone is an internet ninja. - - - Updated - - - Solid choice. My M1A is my favorite, but I shoot better w/ the AR.
Never said I was. Training. It gives confidence and good to keep healthy. I see your passion with guns. On forums with foriegn culture it is curious. I fired a few. It's good.
The absolute only reason I can see in close quarters an AR over a revolver for a civilian is multiple attackers, more then two. Still, that is trumped by the inability to safely store a rifle of this type that you can get to in seconds. You never address that and timing/ availability is more important than anyother single factor. A revolver in the bed stand can be activated from the bed in seconds. If you sleep with an AR, you have more problems then just being wrong again here. Just do a poll here of this supposedly knowledgable group and ask which gun they have most available and the quickest to activate when needed for home defense. Do you actually sleep with an AR next to you ? What's laughable in this whole discussion is, people living in high crime areas and criminals themselves have more need for self defense weapons then anyother segment......they choose pistols and revolvers first. Even Heller wanted one for self defense !
Wow, you are saying it's your first choice and best choice. You are telling me then, when you instruct home and self defense, that you recommend an AR rifle first for home and self defense ? ..do you or are you trolling ? http://www.gunworld.com/10-best-guns/
Wait a minute, I thought we was comparing shotguns vs AR, not pistols vs AR. Yes you do have the manuveribilty and easy access of a pistol over a long gun. But pistol rounds penetrate further than certain AR rounds that are still affective. So if you have to choose between a shotgun and an AR the AR wins. No but if you choose a long gun as your defense then the AR is a better option. Now we can debate whether to choose a long gun over a pistol if you want. Personally I think if being able to respond quickly, opening doors, or herding children isn't your concern then a long gun might be the better option. In fact I advocate that unless you have loved ones in another room you need to check on then you should stay put in your room, call the police, and have the most scariest gun in your arsenal. ARs do a good job of being scary. Sure if you need to respond quickly. But if you have a little time then go for a long gun.
I don't get it, in other Countries, I often slept with an M-16 within easy reach, the bolt locked back, a full magazine loaded in, ready to go...... Now, since I do not have an issue M-16 or $ 30,000 to buy one, a semi auto AR will suffice...... It only takes seconds to snatch up an AR in any case... Indoors, a shotgun is just too loud..........
Then this squabble pertains to whether or not the AR-15 has replaced the shotgun for standard issue equipment, rather than how many states issue the AR-15 to police officers?
