During the Trump administration, the notion that we would eventually achieve a condition of herd immunity as ridiculed. The media and Democrats claimed there was no science which supported the idea this could be achieved.

It’s amazing how quickly things change. Now the Biden administration is saying that we could achieve the condition of herd immunity by spring time. Not one “journalist” challenged that statement at today’s press briefing.

    so what's your point?

Trump blocked Chinese from coming to the USA and Nancy went to Chinatown, unmasked, and called him racist

Trump said that sunshine slows the spread of covid and he was mocked

It's now confirmed that sunshine slows the spread of covid

It's not about facts, if Trump said it, then it had to be bashed

Maybe the new administration will set up re-education camps because I'm having terrible thoughts like open borders aren't good, or higher energy prices and inflation aren't good or mandated $15 min wage isn't good

    I need re-education

Herd immunity wasn't ridiculed as a concept, it's how we defeated polio, smallpox, malaria, measles, etc. However Trump wanted to achieve herd immunity not by mass vaccination but allowing the disease to run it's course unchecked. While this would have technically worked (making the rather ricky assumption that it wouldn't regularly mutate into as new strand capable of reinfection like influenza), it would have ended in millions dead and millions more crippled for life. Herd immunity as it was achieved with Polio is good, as it was achieved with Plague, not so much.

BS he's the one who pulled off operation warp speed, he talked about vaccine by the end of the year and achieved it in RECORD TIME. It's the same damn thing and maybe some lefties were tone deaf and now that Biden is president see the light. A vaccine pumping a million doses a day with warmer weather coming will lead to herd immunity and what was said all along once Fauci and company figured out summer wouldn't completely kill this thing.

Nobody ridiculed the concept of herd immunity. People were opposed to beating covid through herd immunity without vaccine, because it would require 70-80% of the population to become infected, which would result in 0.5-1.5% of the population dying, an unacceptably high number.

Herd immunity through vaccination, however, is a mechanism that EVERYONE supports. That's what we are currently talking about, hopefully having achieved it by the end of summer 2021.

Yes they did. They said it ignored science. Now they are are unwilling to challenge the Biden administration for holding the same view.

Well, then it should be easy for you to cite those who said that herd immunity ignored science? Go ahead, give it a try.

Trump didn't pull off ****. The vaccine for this should have been developed before it ever left China and would have if Trump hadn't dismantled the office we had working with the Chinese to deal with these types of things. This entire pandemic is Trump's fault and none other's.

How could the vaccine be developed before the virus arrived in the US? That's freaking dumb.

Trump didn’t dismantle anything. It was renamed. Sheesh.
    What a hack.

Yeah, if we can get 200+ Million Vaccinated.

That IDIOT Trump wanted "Herd Immunity" Without the Vaccine.

Hopefully, you can see the difference.

If not, then you should move this thread to Humor or Conspiracy.

It ignored science when done the way Trump wanted to, which was to let it kill whoever it could and thus leave the "herd" stronger. When we work with science to make vaccines herd immunity is possible without millions of deaths.

People are not cattle, or chickens.

Vaccines can be developed in other countries than the US. If vaccines are developed early the disease cannot grow and may even be eradicated.

He transferred the people in the Office of Pandemic Awareness to other assignments in other branches. He completely dismantled the Office since he somehow thought it only dealt with SARS and Ebola and they both were no longer epidemics.

Trump's constant and unreasoning belligerence to the rest of the world has cost us more lives in one year than we lost in WWII.

How about you give us some examples of specifically what was said with some nice links so we can read it all in context. At this point you are just making a bunch of assertions without any information against which to judge them.

So, it's your position that the US should have developed a vaccine in China in the couple of months it broke out in China before it was transmitted to the US. And that didn't happen because Trump renamed a pandemic response team. A team which is supposed to respond to virus' which hit the US.

    Hacks.

The US and China working together should have kept a lid on this going back to several years ago when the first indications that a pandemic of some sort was coming and we should be prepared for it. The hospitals were having pandemic drills for just this kind of thing and that goes back to just after the SARS and Ebola scares.

Trump even attended one as President-elect in 2016. He is reported to have been impressed

And then he was elected and dismantled the whole thing as too expensive, especially since we had to build the Second Great Wall. I mean, c'mon the Mexicans couldn't pay for it all, could they?

    Trumpists.

Nuance isn't hypocrisy, though it can seem so if you are being purposefully obtuse.

Nuances are often used as a way to justify or hide an hypocrisy.
