If you watched Barack Obama’s speech on Thursday night, you may have noticed how his mediocre words affected those who watched it. I saw tears streaming from eyes – as if they were in the presence of greatness. How does he do it? How does he manage to mesmerize his followers without saying anything? He isn’t the first to yield this kind of power with his words. As I recall, a certain German Chancellor, who became Führer, knew a few things about how to mesmerize an audience.

Of course that speech painted him as a friend to the middle class. Is that the same middle class that is earning 4% less than they did 3 ½ years ago – at least they are if they are still working? What about his Affordable Healthcare plan that costs every working American an additional 3%? Or how about his financial plan? Did that include his budget that absolutely nobody in the House or Senate (not even the Democrats) voted to approve?

In his speech he repeatedly accused the Republicans of wanting to take us backward. Well, maybe that’s not such a bad place to be. Under Governor Romney in Massachusetts, the unemployment statistics showed that the state was almost at full employment. I’d go back to that in a New York minute, and I’d bet the nearly 25,000,000 unemployed, and the underemployed, and those who have given up looking for work wouldn’t mind going back to that either.

So why did Obama get everybody so pumped up at the Convention? Maybe it’s because he couldn’t get them thinking. If they did, they might be crying – but not because he was so great, but because they had been so misguided.

Because, when you speak in sufficiently vague terms, using key words for which everyone has a personal definition, each member of the audience is free to read her personal definitions and presuppositions into everything you say. Each one of them may have a different understanding of what you said. Many of those understandings may conflict one with another. But, since you never say anything specific, each audience member can go on believing their personal interpretation of what you said. Oblivious to the fact that most of the speech is constructed in the minds of the audience, and it may as well be that many different speeches, each member of the audience believes that you are saying exactly what she would say, and so you have a personal, emotional, spiritual connection with her, when, in fact, you haven't said anything at all.

Obama is the greatest social engineer I have ever seen. After all he is a lawyer.

Is that the same middle class that can't earn crap interest on fixed investments, and is forced to gamble in the stock market in order to have any chance of return on investment ?
Thanks a lot. The SItting president, friend of the big banks, refuses to stop the monetization of UST's and ZIRP that kill the pensions funds and fixed investment vehicles of tens of millions of middle class citizens.

Sorry, but you fail. Obama's getting elected again in November. Not because he "mesmerizes audiences" but because his policies fall in line with what the majority of people in the United States want much better than the Republicans. Our nation is becoming more liberal all the time. Just the way it is. People believe in Obama WAY more!! You don't have to like it, but he will still be your President 4 years from today.

Obama doesn't mesmerize audiences huh? What's with all the crying and weeping? in 2008 his events were PACKED now I see too many empty chairs. Please refer to what Maximatic said. People fail to remember that Obama is a lawyer and can put a spin on ANYTHING as so his darkened heart desires.

You can call it whatever you want. Okay? When the people elect him for a 2nd term in November, maybe you'll start to get it. Maybe. You seem to want it be some superhuman power of Obama's that gets him votes. lol You are in the minority on most of your political views. Make sense to you? That's really all it is. Most voters disagree with you. Nothing you can do about it.

I don't understand what you are saying. Are you being pessimistic in the sense that voters ignorantly vote against their best interest? Or, are you saying that his policies are actually better?

What I'm saying is the Americans would much rather reelect Obama than elect Romney. Just as they would much rather elect Obama than elect McCain. Stop blaming it on some mesmerizing superpower of Obama's. It's ridiculous.

    Yep....they are real sweethearts.

What is really funny is how the "liberals" who claim to be looking out for the poor and the elderly will actually champion these policies because they are economically illiterate. They simply do not understand purchasing power and savings.

Stop being mad over how accurate my original post was. It was the same speech I heard in 2008. The hype isn't there anymore and his Martin Luther King style speeches got old after the numbers came out. I still cannot believe some in your pathetic party insist on putting a ban on corporate profits! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07fTsF5BiSM

while that is true, the Reps have put forth the big government loser that lost to the loser McCain in the 2008 primaries.

Since when is crying solely tied to mesmerizing? Can someone cry because of pain? Can someone cry because of happiness? Think man, think.

My party? I have no party. I refuse to label myself a Democrat or a Republican. I want what is best for my country. That's why I voted for Obama in 2008 and excluding something happening to cause a major change in my opinion between now and November, I will again in 2012. Just like the majority of swing voters.

It's not really Obama that's causing that phenomena. It's the goofus, teeny-bopper-like idiots listening to him with orgasmic delight. Think Chris Mathews and his tingle running down his leg. The whole lot reminds me of a bunch of squealing girls pissin' their panties in pathological wonderment at a mid-60s Beatles concert.

Right. It couldn't just be that the people actually like his policies or what he has to say. lol Hilarious.

Where did you see empty chairs?

Even MORE people fail to remember that Romney is also a lawyer so would also be able to put a spin on anything his darkened heart desires - even you.
