    Another question...

How did everyone feel about the Platinum Dunes reboots of Nightmare on Elm Street & Friday the 13th?

    I, personally, enjoyed them...

I felt like they gave a new life to the franchises...

didn't like the ring, always thought the lady from the well was in my room when the lights were off. had to put my night light on for years after that movie.

I liked the Friday remake. Although it didn't exactly tie all the originals (1-4) into one like they claimed it would, it was still good. I felt it had some aspects of it that took it back to the originals, yet still cheesy at some times. It was just good to see a human jason again...

    Before I forget ... - Salem's Lot - {1979}

    I rented - Child's Play - {1972} today and I believe it's a new release DVD.
I can't remember ever seeing it.I was kinda busy at that time. Not into TV or
    movies.
It stars James Mason and I was asking myself how good an actor was he.He was
    VERY good.In fact GREAT,
He was Great as Captain Nemo in the disney classic - 20,ooo Leagues Under the Sea -.
And of course - Lolita -.
And then there's my favorite Hitchcock movie - North by Northwest -.
Smaller stuff like what's been playing on TMC this month.
    - Bigger Than Life - {1956}.
    He was marveously cast in - Salem's Lot - as the diabolical yet refined { antique dealer }
manager of that Nosferatu-looking Vampire who is truly terrifying.

Gawd....Blair Witch again?? What the heck? The movie was cool, whether it was based on true events really isn't the point. It had a lot of people fooled and I think they did a great job doing that. Clearly it worked pretty well because you are still angry about it....lol

Not that Movies can't fool. That certainly ain't anything new to Flicks.
No one was better than William Castle in promoting scare or hype to help propel
a movie. In fact,Castle used to have an Ambulance outside many a Horror Premier
just in case any moviegoer fainted. He even used commercials of his - The Tingler -
saying that each theatre would have an ambulance waiting. He invigorated audience
participation. Not to forget those - follow the bouncing ball singalongs - used nationwide
for audience participation.Like the one used in a scene { Hud }.
Blair Witch, actually faded faster than whatever slacker magic it held.
Which is proof it didn't work.Repeat after me ... No ... Flash in the Pan novelty like
Blair Witch is a waste of time.
You can Fool ALL of the Slackers SOME of the Time and SOME of the Slackers ALL
of the time but why on earth waste time Fooling ALL of the Slackers ALL of the time.
It makes no sense.Unless You a Slacker.Witch makes even less.

That wasn't a bad movie at all...

I think, tonight, that I'm going to watch "The Tall Man..."

    Looks creepy...

I initially thought it might be a reboot of the Phantasm franchise, but, it's something new...

I'd like to agree that "The Exorcist" is arguably the best horror movie made to date in terms of appealing to a wide demographic.

I'd also agree with Foolardi that the horror genre, as of late, appeals more to a younger demographic...this seems to be the bread n' butter audience that typically
sees or rents films like "Saw" "Hostel" etc...ad infinitum. The actors are young, the plots are slash n' hack and the violence is graphic. I'd call this more exploitative
movies than art; maybe I'm just getting older. I noticed the young actress from Hunger Games is now in one of those..."young attractive girl, home alone, dude hiding in basement."
    yeah real original...

"The Exorcist" was truly a scary movie, even with dated special effects compared to today's CGI. You truly believed a young girl was possessed by the devil after
    exiting the movie.

THE DEAD is a nice recent Zombie pic. Not a perfect movie, but it harkens back to the days when the Undead were actually debilitated by their affliction and moved slowly. I was really surprised how creepy the flick was. Again, it's not perfect, but if you like some bone-chewing Zombiness to add spice to your day, I recommend it. Much preferred over the hyper overdrive Zombees of 28 DAYS LATER or the DAWN OF THE DEAD reboot.

Probably the best horror I have seen in fifteen years was THE DESCENT. Also a huge fan of true crime movies which have been mentioned here, but I have only so much time to type about crap I love. May get to that subject later.

You have stellar taste. BURNT OFFERINGS is such a great subtle trip into weirdness, with some all time greats of cinema- Oliver Reed, Bette Davis and last but far from least the über kewl oddball Karen Black. That really is a total gem for people who appreciate atmosphere and a slow burn. I honestly didn't expect to see anyone here mention it.

To this day, I cannot watch that alone in the dark. May have to do with being raised strict Catholic, but Friedkin delivers the goods to perfection. My second all time favorite.

I wouldn't say I'm a big horror movie fan, but a lot of the music I listen to has a horror twist to it.

Such as circle you circle you.

I've been seeing that at the Redbox, but, have been kind of leery of it...

I might check it out, though...

Tomorrow, though, I'll be watching The Loved Ones...
