This thread is for anyone to post their ideal living conditions. In your ideal world, what would YOU want? You can leave some of the politics out of this, just say the things that you would like. For example... Do you want to be financially safe when you're retired? Do you want education to be widespread and available? Do you want to have complete freedom? And the list goes on. List all of the things that come to mind! There shouldn't be any debate because people should just be listing their desires and not criticizing others for them. Let the listing begin...
Good thread idea. Hopefully some ideas will spark intelligent discussion on improving pressing issues. Ideally, I would favor the following society: 1. Small yet strong government structure which maximizes freedom while maintaining order. 2. Maintenance of natural rights and law to the greatest extent possible. 3. Universal recognition of free will. In other words, let others live as they please with the least amount of constraints. 4. Adherence to a pragmatic and contemporary non-interventionist foreign policy. 5. Commitment to perpetual ingenuity, progress, while maintaining ideals, solutions, etc. that render optimal results. 6. A nearly complete free market economy where individuals maximize productivity for the greater good and for themselves in an equitable manner. 7. Universal education and health care through voluntarism rather than coercion. 8. Widespread use of sustainable energy. 9. Emphasis on achieving complete freedom of information. 10. Increased accessibility to stable retirement on one's terms through the free market. I am certain I can list more.
Good thread. I want: Not to be pushed out of my property when I get old and am no longer able to pay ever rising property tax If I need medicine when I am old I want the medicine which has been discovered many years ago not to be usurped by the hijacked pharmaceutical industry which claims discoveries by controlling governments, so that it can be affordable for a working class person like myself who worked with hands, and not just politicians who got it paid for by tax payers If I ever have kids (god forbid in this system) I want to be sure that they will not be turned by the prostitutes by the likes of the media, government and the bankers such as Strauss Khann who is also a serial rapist. I could go on, but I think you get the idea, and all of those things are possible if we can stop watching television and distinguish between all the fraud politicians and movements, and the movement which can make that change.
I would like: 1) A world where the government is so limited that I barely know it's there (if at all). Preferably, small tribal governments. 2) A world where the government doesn't tell you your rights, you tell them the limits of their authority 3) A world where people were free to live their lives as they choose without intervention as long as their choices do not directly harm others 4) A world where nothing that came out of your mouth could be considered "criminal" 5) A world where we used sustainable energy 6) A world where we bought locally because we choose to support each other and understand the power of doing so (you said ideal) 7) A world where people were free to choose for their family what schools their kids go to, what churches to attend or not attend, what food you eat, what groups to belong to, etc. without other people having any say whatsoever. I don't support the current approach to preparing kids for cubicle living and demonizing family farming, technical trades, etc. A world where militaries were used solely for defense and not as police 9) A world where all military life is voluntary 10) A world where international affairs does not mean anything more than trade 11) A world where global military intervention is entirely voluntary 12) Ideally a barter trade society, but...again, like tribal unless there's an asteroid or total financial collapse we're not going back. I could go on.
I like your list. I also think property taxes should be frozen for those that are of retirement age and can prove they are on a fixed income. We had a fiasco here where property taxes, at least for my property, jumped X 4. It got sorted out but that tax was due immediately and I had to come up with 5K to pay it off which I got back later, but man, that was something.
Norway... that would be my ideal. I can't exactly afford to move there though. Barring that... ....have a small retirement and good health I'm not asking for much really....
Not to mention that Norway has an extremely strict immigration policy that makes it (*)(*)(*)(*) near impossible to move there.
I want all the stuff that anyone could possibly want. I want the lifestyle of a wealthy individual. I don't want to have to lift a finger to do a lick of work. I want the government to leave me alone to do as I please and protect me from my neighbors who might want to stop me from doing as I please. That should do it for now and thank you for asking.

Hahaha well said! We're getting some good lists, keep it up. I'm hoping to see something close to 30+ lists to see what people really want out of life. Its much easier to shape your political views when you understand what people want.
Totally with you, but a few more: 13. I want to see what kinds of technologies will be invented when government no longer forbids development outright. 14. I want a world where people could afford to bring cures to market, rather than keeping them in the lab due to testing costs 15. I really want a warp drive. 16. A world where people invent things. 17. A world where a person is permitted to be politically incorrect in public.
1. I want a return to the original Van Halen. 2. I want traveling called in the NBA. 3. I want rules and laws to be enforced evenly and lawfully without regards to color or status. 4. I want Bad teachers to be fired by the local PTA and school board without UNION representation..the construction unions only get you a pay check..not a lifetime free pass. Garbage men shouldn't make 38,000 in overtime in their first 4 months on the job in Chicago ( do a search ) 5. Women can stop complaining they make less money than men for DOING DIFFERENT JOBS..but that get lumped together under civil servant codes. A secretary doing office work in air conditioning isn't the same deal as a guy shoveling asphalt in 100 degree heat..quit saying it is the same work. 6. Politics is GROWN UP Peaceful WARFARE..you want fair ? Go to your local county FAIR. 7. Quit complaining about Money influence..you want politicians to respond to what ? Your vast knowledge? 8. Learn to study more..there are places that dont TAX SS..pensions or have property taxes increases after you retire. They are not in The NE..try Kentucky SOUTH. 9. California is not Golden. 10. I dislike people who eat human flesh. 11. Vampires suck. 12. The poor ..non working class is alive and well in MN..the cold is no longer a deterrent. 13. Please let the Vikings win one Super Bowl..
Not really. I have an Australian (Australian citizen) friend of Czech birth who after completing a degree in transcontinental crime applied to study law in Norway. He flicked his CV to a few universities in Norway and they welcomed him with open arms. After completing his law degree, he was recruited by a law firm specialisiing in international law. He is still working there after four years of completing his law degree.
I can cosign those, too. 18. A world where agribusiness doesn't get to regulate the death of family farming 19. A world with more trees 20. A world that values compassion as much as ambition 21. A world that values real life interaction more than interaction through a tool
A world without SS. No Secret Service No Secret Societies No Schutzstaffel No Stalin Socialists No Schizophrenic society No Sadististic Sychophants
I want to live much as I do. In a society that has educated me well, that has given me employment opportunities that suit my skills and knowledge, that taxes me fairly in the public good, that gives me almost free health care, that offers me one of the best environments on this planet to live and play in, that values freedoms of more kinds than any American will ever know. I am very fortunate.
Just because we are not told line by line what 'freedoms' we have doesn't mean they don't exist. You like playing this card don't you? You make circular arguments insulting Americans to the point that they say something back in reprisal which proves this or that point about how Americans are blah blah blah. In a thread intentionally designed to express opinions minus the rhetoric, you decided to drip your poison. Good job.
