Gun violence in IL didnt explode until just after we loosened the gun laws here.

What makes me laugh are these are the same people who would defend a states right to NOT recognize a gay marriage from another state.

What loosened gun laws? Chicago has some of the strictest in the country.

Common sense...are you safer armed or unarmed if attacked and your life is threated?

One reason is so ordinary law-abiding people aren't subject to persecution when merely traveling through one of the anti-freedom states. Happened to a woman a year or so ago in New Jersey. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2014/07/20/philly-mother-hopes-for-leniency-from-new-jersey-judge-on-gun-charges.html

Not anymore. Most of the laws got struck down several years ago. Especially the laws regarding hand guns and CC.

I don't see a significant difference. Can you point to it?

It ended up being over 600 this year. The laws got struck down in 2014. You dont see a 20% increase as a big uptick?

2015 had less murders than 2012. How is that possible with your explanation that looser gun laws are responsible for the uptick?

That in a nutshell is what's wrong with America's gun culture.
We've created a nation of people who are scared to go out in public without being armed.
Could a gun protect you some time? Maybe. So could a football helmet, but nobody wears those in public. A gun can also be used against you, it could go off by accident, or it could fall into the wrong hands. For every story we hear about a gun stopping a bad guy, there are way more stories about a child getting hold of a gun, or an argument that turned deadly because one person was armed, or somebody shooting themselves in the nuts and saying the black guys did it.
No thanks, I'll take my chances.

Common sense is rare these days.

Aside from your post hoc fallacy
Gun violence in IL did not explode, just gun violence in Chicago.
Feel free to show know shall-issue carry permits contributed to this.

You do not like the full implication of forcing states to recognize same-sex marriage from other states? So sad.

We keep hearing that gun-related violent crime in the US is out of control, so much so that we need to further restrict the rights of the law abiding.
That being the case, carrying a gun when in public is a perfectly reasonable response.

Not a good analogy, as a gun is fairly unobtrusive, and people who routinely carry a concealed weapon don't really notice them. It's second nature, unlike an obtrusive football helmet which would get in the way of daily activities.

There are only about 50 or so incidents involving children and guns a year. Almost every one is considered national news (or at least regional news). There are thousands of incidents of defense gun use (most of which don't involve a shot being fired). There aren't many abuses of guns by CCW permit holders. CCW permit holders are cautious people--the type of person that has an umbrella, jumper cables and a fire extinguisher in the trunk of their car.
