Also the comparison being made to the IRA attacks was that so far as possible the IRA gave warnings, and tried to avoid civilian casualties, whereas Islam doesn't, and attacks in places where the civilian casualties will be as many as possible. Am I really needing to explain this?? :wall:

Americans should certainly worry about terrorist attacks. Hard to believe, but so called anti-Trump movement and good portion of democrats don't have a problem mixing with proven terrorists. They clearly lost their minds.

Meet the terrorist behind the next women’s march

    https://nypost.com/2017/02/25/the-next-womens-march-is-co-organized-by-a-terrorist/

Here’s the left’s next great idea for bringing down President Trump: another women’s march. Which means another public instance of Trump haters shouting slogans to one another and mistaking it for constructive politics. What progressives need to defeat Trump is outreach, but all they have is outrage.

On March 8, organizers seem to be aiming for a different vibe than the librarians-in-(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)-hats element that made the first women’s march after Trump’s inauguration so adorable.

Instead of milling around Washington, organizers have in mind a “general strike” called the Day without a Woman. In a manifesto published in The Guardian on Feb. 6, the brains behind the movement are calling for a “new wave of militant feminist struggle.” That’s right: militant, not peaceful.

The document was co-authored by, among others, Rasmea Yousef Odeh, a convicted terrorist. Odeh, a Palestinian, was convicted in Israel in 1970 for her part in two terrorist bombings, one of which killed two students while they were shopping for groceries. She spent 10 years in prison for her crimes. She then managed to become a US citizen in 2004 by lying about her past (great detective work, INS: Next time, use Google) but was subsequently convicted, in 2014, of immigration fraud for the falsehoods. However, she won the right to a new trial (set for this spring) by claiming she had been suffering from PTSD at the time she lied on her application. Oh, and in her time as a citizen, she worked for a while as an ObamaCare navigator...

Just have a look at that lovely and feminine face. Good grief.

Americans are more likely to lose someone being accidentally shot by a family member but that does not make them fearful of gun ownership in their family. It is the continual coverage of any single terrorist attack on all media that increases the fear of being attacked by terrorists. 1984 by George Orwell was quite an accurate prediction for the US

Again you miss the point that terrorist attacks are stopped frequently, that it only took 19 terrorists from within the USA to bring down the World Trade Centres killing 3000 civilians, that a bomb in NYC Times Square was stopped due to the terrorist setting the wrong time. There are real threats out there and all you can bring to this discussion is some weak argument based on a flawed analysis.

Firstly if someone decided on the spur of the moment to carry out a terrorist attack straight away, no amount of intelligence would stop him. Secondly, you have just undermined your argument - these "people who have worked and continue to work around the clock so that you can sleep comfortably" is one of the reasons why you should not be so scared of terrorist attacks.

    - - - Updated - - -

It is you who is missing the point. Those frightened people who are scared to leave their house is more in danger from the person sitting opposite them than if they went out and stopped being scared of a terrorist attack.

Terrorism is a clear and present danger. To claim that an American is more at risk of being killed by a family member with a gun than a terrorist attack is misleading as it suggests that counter-terrorism isn't important and that there is no real threat.

So can you verify your claim with actual statistics or is this something that you decided to make up on the spot. Do you have statistics of all the terrorist attacks in America that have been prevented and the estimated casualties that would have resulted?

To a certain extent I can agree on your point that no amount of intelligence can stop a spur of the moment attack, however we can reduce the threat of terrorism by not letting in people to live in our country who embrace ideologies that give them a foundation to commit terrorism.

I lived in London during the IRA atrocities, but I didn't start whining like a child, nor was I terrified of going out in case I heard an Irish accent. We just got on with our lives. Terrified Americans just stock up on guns to make themselves feel braver. Gun makers are loving it. http://money.cnn.com/2016/09/06/news/guns-fbi-background-checks/

True mate - The worst thing is so many English people have become so weak & easily frightened - There are some fine and active examples of these weak little Englishman on this board.
Funny isn't it, the weaker and more easily frightened someone is, so their voice seems to get louder.

You make a good point and one that should be highlighted more often.

The IRA used to ring the police and tell them where the bombs were.....how quaint is that!

So, even though the IRA used to ring the police to help minimise casualties, they still managed to kill more of us than a "global Muslim terror network"

A few Irish people who gave us bomb warnings by phone still killed more of us than an intricate global terror network who wants death to the west and the world to live under sharia law.

You'll excuse me if i don't start sh!tting myself quite yet.

You don't think 9/11, London 7/7, Paris, Brussels, Germany, etcetera is the end of it do you? They're not even out of first gear yet. One day when you're hiding in a mall or another public place hoping that the marauding gunman won't find you, you'll be sh1tting yourself, trust me on that.

You promised that you won't see this but I don't care. More people have been killed/injured by the (Real) IRA in the last 12 months in the UK & NI than have been killed/injured by those you say are still in first gear. The (real) IRA have not ended their campaign but unlike you "we" are still not frightened by what may happen to 'us' from the threat of terrorists nor will 'we' treat the Irish as terrorists

Yes, the government wants us all to embrace our inner cowards. Be afraid, very afraid. That's the only way the global war on terror can be successful.
