Not the United States in name, but the United States as we know it.

Times have been tense lately, and all it takes is something small being blown into something big before the country erupts in civil war. Race tensions are high, class warfare is high, cities are crumbling and people are losing their jobs, pensions, life savings. If the stock market comes tumbling down and we have the late 2000's all over again, I think this time around it would be much worse.

So in reality, how long will the United States last before it dissolves?

    I'd say about 20-30 years.

Next Tuesday. And I won't miss it, either.

People FEARING change, is actually part of the societal neurosis affecting us so profoundly.

We should make the best of things, instead of seeking to cling to the past and certain outdated notions/traditions. I don't mean that in any extreme sense... but trying to literally freeze things and stay where we are... will not be a healthy thing for this or any society.

That would put me into my 80's so I probably won't be around by then and as such I'm not going to worry too much about it. Let the millenniums worry about it.

This country is nothing like the country I grew up in. I have never seen a country fall so fast as this one has. They have trashed most of the values we once had. I have never seen the Parties as divided as they are now. It's hard to imagine it getting much worse, but I fear it will.

Siding with International Marxism during WWII and doing absolutely nothing to stop its advance into our society afterwards was a death blow.

Our downfall started in the 1960's. That's when we got into the Vietnam War, drugs become common. That's when we felt sorry for Japan and allowed them to screw us over in trade, so much so, we lost several big industries we once dominated. That's when woman really began filling the work place instead of raising their kids. That when girls started having babies when not married and fathers left their families and allowed the government to raise them. That was the start of the hippy generation. It kept going down hill from there.

because republicans and democrats can't get along (even on things they agree on), we have no chance of fixing the foreign outsourcing and import problem

any band-aid applied to the economy, will just need to be re-applied and re-applied until those items are addressed and addressing it at this point is gonna be painful cause the corps put their hand in Pandora's box and taking it out will not be easy - for both consumers and corps - the longer we wait the more painful it will be, and in the current political environment whoever does the first steps the other party will jump all over them.. so it has to be bipartisan

Yes the good old days - Seldom are they as good as many want to dream. In my eyes the world was a better place in my youth, the truth is, it was simply different.

When the last government shut down occurred CNN ran a very interesting article (Yeah I know surprised me too) about how the art of the grand compromise has died. In the past both sides had been prepared to eat crow if the actual legislation was for the good of the country. On certain issues there was a sense of solidarity - Thats all gone for the love of sound bites and bipartisan bickering.

What are you talking about? Both parties are kleptocrats. One side plays conservative complete corporate puppet, the other side plays liberal tolerance of corprorate corruption. The democrats don't care about ideology, they're playing a game. They're getting paid a good salary.

Some of U.S. have the honor, dedication, responsibility and compassion to CARE about what happens to the country, and our children, grandchildren!

Then there are those who are simply self-serving, arrogant, lying, cheating, con-artists. Years ago, we called them "Snake-Oil Salesman", Today we call them Liberals!

Well, I guess you could have sided with the Nazis instead. Would that have made you feel better?

Really? I happen to think of the Japanese as excellent trade partners(particularly as it relates to technology and cars.). It's the CHINESE who've screwed us over via unfair trade ratios and the WTC's bias.

As much as the liberal left despises and the religious right scoffs there comes a time when you gotta admit she was right. Ayn Rand saw all this coming many many years ago before I was born. Altruism kills every society that practices it.

I'm thinking it will hold together long enough for my death to occur but having read the book I'm at peace with it. Inevitable is inevitable.
But who knows, the people are getting totally fed up with the government real fast. Government snipers on the hills overlooking the Bundy Ranch? Militias and bikers heading that way, detainment, vehicles searched legal guns confiscated.
I'm not sure the people will sit down for another Waco or Ruby Ridge. One little trigger might set the whole country off.
People are simmering in pots working up to boiling mad. They may all have different pet peeves but that will actually make quelling an uprising impossible.
If your still scoffing at the idea, your simply out of touch or living in a protected shell.

Dont you just love the complete removal of context to make a point. I doubt anyone thinks the Soviets were all around good guys, but compared to the Nazis they were the lesser of two evils. The Western allies used the Soviets for their own means as much as the Soviets used them.

Whats that old saying "The enemy of my enemy is my friend"

I'd say not in my lifetime. Maybe in the lifetime of a child born today. Definitely in the next 100 years there will be a fundamental shift in the structure of governing in the US.

The United States, as we know it, will end when Republicans finally succeed in dissolving the social safety nets: Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.

I've heard that the projections don't lie and the social safety nets will be gone or diminished by the time my generation has need of them.

the united states of america won the second world war.
the united states of america rules the world.

the 2 statements above is self explanatory that the united states of america
is not to dissolve but to stay and she stays to rule the whole world.

    SIMPLE.
