There are legions of videos of politicians and political lobbyists getting roped into nonsensical statements on camera, and most of them don't need to be tricked into doing it. I refuse to get sucked into that kind of bovine excrement based on a !#$%^ internet video by a jackass of a self-titled comedian! I sure as hell am not going to accept an ignorant twunt like you trying to pigeonhole my entire political belief system on the basis of such crap either!

Consider yourself ignored. I refuse to waste one more second of my life on your garbage.

Wow, someone who can't reject that 'arming toddlers' is cobblers is an extremist. However, I'm sure you'll admit that eventually.

Of course they do. Felons primary access to guns includes straw purchases including the gift provision, and unregulated secondary gun sales which the NRA works to maintain through the equally responsible gop. They are for selling guns to those on terrorism watch list and selling guns to people with dementia. Heck, anyone can buy a gun at a non FFL regulated table at a gun show.

Well, the difference is, I’m an independent too who has had weapons permits and owned and carried guns for decades. Nothing that anyone has proposed in congress for changes in the the federal control laws will keep law abiding citizens from owing and carrying guns. The laws only scare those of you who like to parade around with gun avatars who measure the size of their man hood by the number of guns they own or their loyalty to the criminally intent NRA.

This is more evidence over the stupidity of the firearms discussion area. Its about stopping debate.

    Factually incorrect.

Even if the so-called "gift provision" was being exploited for the purpose of trafficking firearms to known felons, it is still a straw purchase, and a felony offense, both for the felon, and the firearm purchaser on record. There is no loophole being exploited that allows both parties to escape prosecution.

Such is the claim of yourself, but it is not supported to actual evidence. It is nothing more than a belief without proof.

The criteria for being listed on the watch list is secret, and no private individual is allowed to know just what threshold of evidence is sufficient for listing. Once someone is on the list, they have no way of knowing as they are not provided with notice of either their listing, or the charges against them, nor are they told how they can clear their name. The watch list is nothing more than a list of individuals who are accused of doing something wrong, but for which evidence of wrongdoing does not exist. The very notion of the list violates the basic premise of due process, and the united states specifically states that one cannot be denied liberty without due process of law.

Unless there is an official diagnosis or adjudication to demonstrate the individual is a danger to themselves and others, there is nothing that can be done.

Except there is no evidence of such actually happening with any degree of regularity. It is just speculation on the part of yourself and others.

Such gatherings are also subject to a law enforcement presence, meaning everyone is being watched to some extent or another, and every transaction is bound to have a significant number of witnesses who can testify to seeing the prohibited individual handling numerous firearms, with each handling carrying a five year prison sentence per firearm if charges are actually pursued.

Evidence reveals, however, that prohibited individuals are rarely ever prosecuted for attempting to acquire firearms, even when their attempts involve a federally licensed firearms dealer, and their personal information is recorded on the federal forms. Law enforcement shows no interest in pursuing such charges, even though it is quite easy to prove that a crime was committed.

If law enforcement will not pursue indictments on documented examples now, they will most certainly not pursue charges if private sales involved background checks either.

It is not a matter of the law being insufficient or nonexistent. It is that existing firearm-related restrictions are not enforced.

You are an honest *********** independent. You keep mentioning federal law...

State and City laws that require government permission to own is the threat, and it is rampant. So stop blowing smoke like no threat exist and you have no clue.

If you are a gun owner like you said you would know this.....your intellectual dishonesty is a red flag.

The discussion was meant to talk about firearms, calibers, range report, gun smitty and such. We have a sub forum 2A to discuss pro/Con, laws, news that exist.

Do some research instead of talking out your backside Reiver, and stop with the dramatics of being shut down with the debate thingy.

    Victims, never understood the mentality.

    Encourage? Not in the slightest.

Straw purchase is already a felony with a punishment of ten years imprisonment , and felon in possession also has a punishment of ten years imprisonment, yet as you note straw purchase continues to be the primary access to firearms to felons. How much more severe does the potential punishment have to be for straw purchases to be reduced by an act of law?

According the DOJ in the 2010 report "Summary of Select Firearm Violence Prevention Strategies", one necessary element for an effective universal background check system is comprehensive registration of all firearms. We don't have, nor can we expect to have, such a registry. A second requirement is a reduction in straw purchases. See above.
If someone is such a danger to society that they cannot be trusted with a firearm, why are they still walking around free in our country. BTW, ACLU also supports this position:

    https://www.aclu.org/blog/national-...use-error-prone-and-unfair-watchlists-not-way

Unless such a person has been declared mentally incompetent, they are considered to be competent. That's the law.

And if every private seller had direct access to NICS, they could screen their own buyers. Why do the Democrats fight to prevent this?

Then manually lower your eyebrows back into their original position, and get to presenting a better, more coherent argument for why such should not be done.

Yeah... I don't know why I kept expecting liars and charlatans to be swayed by facts and logic.

    Lesson learned.

A 1:9 twist should stabilize a good range of bullets from 55 gr through 70gr. One of my uppers has a 1:9 and does well with factory 55gr, with some variation depending on manufacturer. But the sweet spot for it was 60gr VMax loaded with 24.8gr Benchmark. That was mine...each gun may be different, even with the same manufacturer. With nearly every gun I have, I have always expended a number of different loads to find what works best for that gun and barrel combination. With reloads I start at the range of load combination that seems to work well then experiment subtle variations of powder/bullet combinations, keeping detailed notes... expensive, but one of my fascinations with guns...always searching for that magic combination.
That aside, I would decide your intended use, accurate target shooting, varmit hunting, self defense, etc. research the boards to give you an idea of what others have experienced with their experimentation for a given use, and start your testing there. Don’t take anyone’s work for the optimum load without doing your own testing, just start with their suggestions and go from there. Hard to guess what will perform best for you, but with a 9:1, you have a good range of options. Have fun, and I mean fun, in the discovery.

If you aren't shooting at steel, milsurp 62 grain should do fine. 3 MOA or less, likely, which is fine for casual plinking.

I’d agree the 855 is a good round for plinking. But it’s not the most accurate round in my 5.56 upper. Again, the round and platform combination best fit, depends on the specifics and the application. For instance, with my EDC CC combos I use inexpensive FMJ factory ammo for target shooting and plinking, but have extensively tested the combination I use for EDC SD CC, including my own battery of reliability, terminal tests and other actual use reports. When I hunted for a living, depending on the game and expected hunting situations, I did extensive testing, often of my own reload combinations... in that, I always enjoy the observations of others.... always enjoy the exchanges and always learning from the experiments and experiences of others... lots to know.

I've never fired 855, as I shoot at steel. He did mention casual shooting, and 855 is cheap. In my competition rifle my 55 gr FMJ hand loads will shoot sub MOA, but that took some time to get to. In my 1:9 bolt gun the 53 gr VMAX shoots .5 MOA.

Ya gotta luv it. The NRA President is a three count convicted felon. But that doesn’t bother the NRA. They have a history of helping felons get guns, and now making one president of their association. Seems fitting.

"[EDITOR’S NOTE: As many people have pointed out in comments to this article, a judge later vacated Oliver North’s convictions.]"

This was the second sentence. You're just trolling.

Oliver North was the official “ gun runner” for the most corrupt administration ever....the Reagan Administration. Having a gun runner as your president seems appropriate for the NRA,

Local laws are a response to weak federal laws, thanks to the GOP and the political action committee, the NRA. There is no absolute right to own a gun. Do you support felons, the underaged and mentally compromised the same access to guns as a legal law abiding citizen ?
Don’t be a tool. Gun owners are not all in line with the criminal intent of the NRA. To assume that a legal gun owner doesn’t have a valid point in keeping guns out if the hands of felons, is ridiculous.
