Some folks have chosen to stay on small islands in the path of the storm. Here we go again folks. What's the matter with people?

    https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...orida-braces-for-monster-storm-idUSKCN1MK0OO?

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Reuters) - Hurricane Michael grew into a potentially deadly Category 4 storm on Wednesday before it was due to smash into Florida’s Gulf shore with towering waves and roof-shredding winds as 500,000 people were under evacuation orders and advisory’s.

It's amazing how this storm went from barely a Cat 1 to a Cat 4 in less than 24 hours. Now, they're talking about Michael reaching Cat 5.

The Florida Panhandle is gonna get creamed - the only good news is that this storm is moving quickly. It's supposed to reach us here in southern Virginia tomorrow night, which is incredible...

145 mph winds.... and still growing, per Weather Channel..... it has a chance to make Cat 5 (157 mph) before it hits Fla.... Perhaps another “one of the wettest we’ve ever seen from the standpoint of water.”

As with so many things in life, there are always folks who just don't do what most folks think they should do. I've been through a couple of these storms. I've evacuated from others. Sometimes, you have a choice. For those who choose not to leave, I assume they have a plan. I hope they won't be demanding that someone come out in the middle of the storm to rescue them.

And, who knows, they might be fine. Then again, they might not.

No, the rate that the storm will move through, the only flooding problem will be the surge area. It will be a big surge but should move in and out quickly (probably taking buildings with it). It's won't be a flooding situation like in NC.

People can make their own decisions and ignore the warnings, no one can force them otherwise, but they need to stop chaining up, tying up and penning up animals. If you have to leave an animal behind, allow it to get to higher ground. So many animals die because of people's stupidity.

That's the chance people take. All I know is that after surviving Hurricane Camille that's not a chance I'm willing take.

That being said, the peeps in Florida are pretty hurricane savvy. I'l be crossing my fingers for them...

Not this size on the panhandle. There has never in recorded history been a storm this strong on the west coast.

The Pan handle doesn't get hit like this often. Those of us in south FL are used to it though. We're prepared every season.

Katrina was about extreme rain in a below seal level part of the country. As a hurricane it was actually kind of a fail.

Tough to get to folks who have chosen to stay on islands. Folks might be able to plan for power outages but flooding is a different story.

Flooding will be a serious issue for folks who have chosen to stay on islands.

If people choose to stay when told to evacuate not only should they be jailed , if they survive, but if anyone tries to rescue them or their %&*%$*# dogs, the rescuers should be thrown in jail, TOO!!!!

I'm about 30 miles ESE of Tallahassee. planning on riding it out.

I think it's coming ashore far enough west that I'll only get some rain and tropical storm winds.

    famous last words.

I'm to the west on the border of tropical storm/hurricane. Lots evacuation traffic yesterday and already some flooding along causeway which can close lanes backing up traffic even more. Made sure I had enough beer in the fridge.

Sorry, but strongly disagreed as 1) giving the government too much power over individual rights and 2) just being flatout authoritarian.

I do, however, agree with Florida's decision to not risk the lives of First Responders to rescue dumbasses until the danger has passed.

I don't think they should be rescued even after the danger has passed because rescue is still costly and dangerous...

……. if these people think they'll be fine during the storm then they should be just fine after the storm...

Nope, stubborn and stupid shouldn't be rewarded by others risking their lives.

If someone is deemed mentally incompetent then they are probably under care of the sane who will evacuate them.
