What happened last week was inevitable, and anyone saying differently is still lying to you.

Great little opinion piece. I fear that we have too little control over what happens in D.C. because our elections are SO partisan that they're focused almost entirely on empty partisan promises and helping one party beat the other "to save America" or "to save democracy." The melodrama has taken over reasoned, informed voting that would put good people in office. And the rotten people in office have all the wealth and power they need to perpetuate this situation indefinitely.

 

Of course it was inevitable. You don't occupy a country for 21 years, pay off the corrupt "government" for the entire time while Pakistan and the Saudis get represented by the same government you are paying off and get out nice and easy. Cojones Joe is doing what needs to be done. It will be over in a few weeks unless the US gets sucked back in but I suspect that the Biden Admin are committed to the withdrawal 1000%. Bring them all home and quick.

 

Right or wrong Joe's getting them out after 20 years. Something worth emphasizing.

My feeling is that you should have maintain a small US presence with multinationals as well. Despite appearances I think that democracy and the concepts of freedom would have continued to soak in.

However, it's hard to keep an army when all they get are stale potatoes after all the corruption.

 

I keep wondering about the prospects for the Afghans who've enjoyed freedom and at least some measure of peace while NATO forces were in there eventually overpowering the Taliban and whether we should maybe assist them in a less direct way. It seems like we've planted and tended to a democratic garden, but are now suddenly abandoning it before harvest.

The OP's opinion regards it all as a lost cause, but certainly we have had a big influence on those people and have considerably changed the trajectory of their development already.

 

that is the biggest problem with Afghanistan, they do not feel proud of their country, they are divided sub groups

which if we continue down the path we are on, we could also destroy ourselves from within too

our enemies know this and our pretending to be Americans on our social media and influencing us and planting the seeds of hate and division

As CNN and MSNBC are reporting as well as our allies in Europe and around the world are telling you is that it's how Joe took the military out before getting all the Americans and allies out. Are you blind to this fact? Our allies are saying this has set the U.S. back 60 years in our footing in the world community. China and Russia are laughing licking their chops with this spineless weak President. Leaving tons of ammunition, guns, helicopters and other of our best weapons in the hands of the Taliban, Al-queda and ISIS. Way to go Joe. And, you Democrats keep supporting this idiot?
