If all the U.S. wealth were divided up equally, each American man, woman, and child would have $216,567. If we were to remove the children from this equation and just divided up the wealth among adults, the result would be $301,539 per adult man and woman. So those right-wingers who say if we re-distribute the wealth we would all be poor are talking a lot of garbage!

This figure comes from the website run by economists Thomas Piketty, Facundo Alvaredo, Tony Atkinson, , Emmanuel Saez and Gabriel Zucman.

I found out about this statistic by Professor Richard Wolff (Ph.D. Yale) in the following video where approximately 13:12 minutes into the video he deals with this scenario:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsWtcULPcy8

We need to post this video with the relevant statistics on as many Facebook pages as possible. These statistics need to circulate the globe in general and the United states in particular. Thank you.

Most poor people who are poor today would squander the $300K in a very short time and be poor again

    Welfare bums do exist
But it is a gross generalization to lump together everyone receiving support

Why is it all socialists try to do stuff like this?

Even if right now someone cast a magic spell to equally redistribute all of the wealth overnight and gave everyone an equal share.... the poor would go back to being poor, and the rich would go back to being rich in a matter of months, at the latest. Low class society has no experience being in upper or middle class. Upper class society only know how to get back to and maintain upper class lifestyle. I don't imagine much would change for the middle class.

You'd have some statistical outliers, sure. Some poor people would wind up rich, and some people that were rich would wind up in the gutter, but they'd be statistical aberrations, and not indicative of the norm.

Why would money need to be divided equally when some people sit on their ass all day playing video games while others are out working hard?

Of course, ignoring that issue, we come to the issue of the value of money. If everyone in the country had 300k, then the price of all goods and services would go up accordingly. A house is worth 200,000 dollars because it's a scarce resource and that is the selling point that the market created. It's based on some people having enough money to buy it, or afford it. If everyone could afford it, it wouldn't sell for 200,000, but some figure much higher than that. You realize that money is affected by scarcity, right? I mean, that's such a basic concept, but I don't know if those simple ideas migrate to the far left too often.

The biggest welfare bums are right up there in Wall Street. Trillions of dollars to bail out the failed banks, insurance companies and General Motors. So what the devil are you talking about?

As its been said, with in a year, those who were rich before, would have the money again and those who were poor would be broke again.

Btw, people in Weimar Republic at millions of Marks ($) during the 1920's, where they rich? How much cash you have is arbitrary when that cash doesn't buy as much as it used to. Do you really think $300k is going to buy the same amount of milk tomorrow as it does today if everyone can afford to pay more?

And the left loved giving away tax payer money to companies they were in bed with? Why do you only attack the right when the left under Obama did the exact same thing?

You mean sitting on your ass at the beach?? Like Governor Chris Christie --- that overweight buffoon! Sitting on your ass and speculating against currencies while eating twinkies is not good for the public.

Let Sanders start by redistributing his 3 homes. For someone who preaches poor and castigates the wealthy, he IS rich. What a hypocrite!

What? Does he own 3 mansions or 3 regular homes??? Let's see ... he works in Washington, D.C. because he is a senator from the state of Vermont --- that's 2 homes right there (I assume). The 3rd one I don't know anything about. Feel free to inform me of his overpriced, luxurious mansion, please.

Because communism has worked so well in other economies?

But let me guess, you have the answer now to make it viable?

Yeah sure and you are so un-lazy that you know that the United States and 13 foreign armies invaded Soviet Russia in their first year of existence? And you know how the CIA uses dogs to rape Catholic nuns in Guatemala? I wager you a million bucks that you were an enthusiastic supporter of the Iraq war because you read a lot of military history and history in general and you thought we were going to be received as liberators? Let me tell you: I opposed the war in Iraq before it started because I knew it was going to be a colossal disaster. How did I know that?? -- because I'm lazy that's why??? And you are about as wise as a boiled egg. Ditto for the economy. I knew the economy was going to collapse big time and it did. I bet you never saw it coming.

The boys of capital, they ... chortle in their martinis about the death of socialism. The word has been banned from polite conversation. And they hope that no one will notice that every socialist experiment of any significance in the twentieth century-- without exception-- has either been crushed, overthrown, or invaded, or corrupted, perverted, subverted, or destabilized, or otherwise had life made impossible for it, by the United States. Not one socialist government or movement-- from the Russian Revolution to the Sandinistas in Nicaragua, from Communist China to the FMLN in El Salvador-- not one was permitted to rise or fall solely on its own merits; not one was left secure enough to drop its guard against the all-powerful enemy abroad and freely and fully relax control at home.

It’s as if the Wright brothers’ first experiments with flying machines all failed because the automobile interests sabotaged each test flight. And then the good and god-fearing folk of the world looked upon this, took notice of the consequences, nodded their collective heads wisely, and intoned solemnly: Man shall never fly. Killing Hope by William Blum

"They force [Sister Dianna] Ortiz, who entered the novitiate at the age of 17, to jerk them off and perform oral sex. They hurt her in other ways she won't describe. (The most chilling line in the book is in a different section, where Ortiz, casually explaining her fear of dogs, says, "Dogs were used in my torture in a way that was too horrible to share with anyone. Even now, I don't talk about that part of the torture.") And they put her in a pit of dying and dead people who've already been tortured -- including children. Most damaging of all, they position Ortiz's hands around a machete and force the machete, in her hands, into another torture victim, murdering the woman."

"I got pregnant as a result of the multiple gang
rapes by my torturers, and unable to carry within me what
they had engendered, what I could view only as a monster, the product of the men who had raped me, I turned to someone for assistance and I destroyed that life. Am I proud of this decision? No. But if I had to make the decision again, I believe I would again decide as I did eight years ago."---- Page 2 of Salon.com's review of her book The Blindfolds Eyes

    http://www.salon.com/2002/11/19/ortiz/
For women, it was an especially violent experience. The commission reports that nearly every female prisoner was the victim of repeated rape. The perpetration of this crime took many forms, from military men raping women themselves to the use of foreign objects on victims. Numerous women (and men) report spiders or live rats being implanted into their orifices. One woman wrote, “I was raped and sexually assaulted with trained dogs and with live rats. They forced me to have sex with my father and brother who were also detained. I also had to listen to my father and brother being tortured.” Her experiences were mirrored by those of many other women who told their stories to the commission.

    The United Fruit Co.

by canonical poet Pablo Neruda (Nobel Laureate)

    When the trumpet sounded,
    everything was prepared on earth,
    and Jehovah gave the world
    to Coca-Cola Inc., Anaconda,
    Ford Motors, and other corporations.
    The United Fruit Company
reserved for itself the most juicy
piece, the central coast of my world,
    the delicate waste of America

    It re-baptized these countries
    Banana Republics,
    and over the sleeping dead,
    over the unquiet heroes
    who won greatness,
    liberty, and banners,
    it established an opera buffa:
    it abolished free will,
    gave out imperial crowns,
    encouraged envy, attracted
    the dictatorship of the flies.

    Trujillo flies, Tachos flies
    Carias flies, Martinez flies,
    Ubico flies, flies sticky with
    submissive blood and marmalade,
    drunken flies that buzz over
    the tombs of the people
    circus flies, wise flies
    expert at tyranny.

    With the bloodthirsty flies
    came the Fruit Company,
    amassed coffee and fruit
in ships which put to sea like
    overloaded trays with the treasures
    from our sunken lands.

    Meanwhile the Indians fall
into the angry depths of the
harbors and are buried in the
    morning mists,
a corpse rolls, a thing without
    name, a discarded number,
    a bunch of rotten fruit
    thrown on the garbage heap.

Did you actually calculate what $300k in the bank actually means?

If you invest it and get a return of 5% you will only get $15K per year without touching your principle.
If you want to grow the principle you will have to take less, probably around 2% or only $6K per year.

If you take out $20K per year then the principle won't last you till you retire.

Even a mother and father together will only get about $12K per year if they want to grow their principle. Not enough to get above the poverty level.

So, exactly what difference do you think this will make in most people's lives? How many do you suppose will decide to either maintain or grow the principle? If most people were disciplined enough to do this to begin with we wouldn't have so many people reaching SS age with nothing in savings!
