Your country already has everything that AOC and Bernie want...United States is a sick society economically with the worst inequality and upward mobility anywhere and the GOP caused that and this pandemic policy we have and our leadership is absolutely missing. I have to dispute that. We didn't start wearing masks until quite late (August), AFTER we'd almost eradicated the virus.

I'm not saying masks don't do anything, because they absolutely do .. but the primary work is done by lockdown and quarantine.

 

You're not listening. We have the SAME social problems here, and they're increasing. The higher income and additional social programs haven't made a bit of difference.

Whatever you think those things are going to do, it's fantasy. Social problems are just that ... SOCIAL. Sick societies cannot be saved with money and comforts. Especially when it's money and comfort which caused the problems in the first place.

You need to look into it more. Italians were VERY resistant to the early protocols .. more so than just about any other Europeans. They constantly flaunted rules, and the Govt was nowhere near forceful enough in policing those rules. Their situation is a direct result of that combination failure. A populace which took a hubristic stance, and a Govt who let them. It's only in this second wave that they've become stricter, but they're still battling a populace determined to go their own way.

Culture plays a huge part in it. Far more than we'd have guessed back in March.

 

Try it on lab rats and see what happens. Keep their bellies full and their lives free from challenge and discomfort.

Another factor I think is that the Italians really didn't understand that COVID was so deadly. No one did, the only people with extensive experience with the malady were the Chinese and one valid criticism of them was that they were secretive about the real effects and dangers.

 

Those criminals are, clearly, not among the majority of people to whom I referred.
