We have about as much quantified proof of that as we did about "If you like it, you can keep it." The difference is, because it's a "possibility" that's denounced on the fringe, no one would dare think about it, touch it or suggest it loudly.

So are people "conceding" it, or are they at best just pushing it aside as it does nothing to advance real political concerns about a crappy(if not by now unconstitutional) president?

I believe it's the latter. If enough people were interested enough and/or not convinced enough, there'd be even more of a peep about it. Then the ACA happened and that has everyone's attention.

But yeah, it was a major and devastating lie. That and the increasing costs as well. People might remember the $2500 lie more than the 'if you can keep it lie'. A doctor's a doctor, an insurance company's an insurance company but money is irreplaceable.

That's my take on it. It was a grasping, filthy lie designed to implant one piece of legislation that likely would never get the needed public support without it.

 

Psychopaths don't feel remorse; they speak strategically, but there's no way they could offer a heartfelt apology. They don't have the mental tools for it. Instead, they will very often blame someone - anyone - else for their wrongs.

When did that become acceptable? I'm guessing it's only ever been so in times when people had no real choice of who won an election, meaning that they would have had little choice but to accept (and find justifications for accepting) the filth that would end up in power despite their desire for someone better (i.e. someone honest, forthright and genuinely caring for the public good and safeguarding liberties).

Our system has been deteriorating for a long time now, and it's reaching a critical point, I think. We're being led to an economic collapse of epic proportions even as our so-called leaders lie and cheat worse than ever before.

Sure, I agree but since he won't be running for re-election it's hard for that to happen since to try him legally on that would be nearly impossible. You can though vote Republican during the next midterm elections and render him a lame duck president but that's about as much as you or anyone can do.

 

"Read my lips.....No new taxes". Bush Sr. did the same kind of mistake except he did it during his first term and he didn't get re-elected but there was no way to legally try him for that as well. So, unfortunately it's just another politician lying. Heck GWB lied and had a bunch of our troops slaughtered and tons of innocent Iraqis killed. He's doing peachy keen and hasn't been brought to court. So again, everyone acting so outraged about it, understandable but get real.
